Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere was a nightclub nearby and the music went into the night. Bin lorries noisily emptied industrial bins overnight.
The hotel is in a good location by the cathedral and shops. The facilities were clean. Staff were helpful and polite. Self service breakfast-as much as you want-was lovely.

United KingdomOn checking in we approach our room passing the housekeeper that had just cleaned our room in the corridor. Unfortunately he was suffering from quite a bad personal hygiene problem that was noticeable in our room. We needed to open our window to freshen the room. Also the twin beds were quite narrow.

United KingdomThe pillows for our bed were very thick - and not very comfortable. It would have been better to have one thick and one thinner pillow for each bed. Several windows are suffering from broken seals, so there is moisture between the panes which hindered views to the Cathedral, unfortunately. The evening menu was very limited - not as good as when we stayed there before.
The breakfast was good, but with only one coffee machine the queue for hot drinks was slow. I would have preferred individual jam pots rather than the communal ones. There was plenty of food available and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

United KingdomAs a Mecure hotel, this one falls well below standards of other Mecure hotels. The furniture is extremely dated, felt like living in a charity shop which is strange as Winchester is an affluent city. No swimming pool, which a lot of other Mecures have. Staff on front desk were inexperienced, seemed nervous/unsure and didn't give any information upon check-in. No one was even manning the desk upon check out. Had to spend a good 5-10 minutes searching for staff in the hotel. Very poor for a hotel that charges a high price for very little in terms of customer service/satisfaction. The only positive was the location which was close to the city centre but this was also a downfall as I was awoken by drunks prowling the streets at 3am. Overall a very poor experience. I've stayed at a lot of Mercure hotels and they have been great. This one not so much.

United KingdomThe public spaces are very tired and old. The lift is smaller than a wardrobe and rather dodgy. The property smells old when you walk in. The decor is 70s but not in a good way. Although the rooms are more modern the furniture was worn in places and a drawer was broken. The room key did not work 3 times when I checked in. I had to keep walking up and down the stairs with my bag, and eventually the person on the desk came up with me and recalibrated the lock.
The room was nice and clean. Big comfy bed and great view of the cathedral.

United KingdomPoor soundproofing on windows. Our room faced the cathedral and church bells started at 7:30 in the morning. We also heard drunk people outside until late.
Location right by the cathedral and by the cute High Street is really nice. No shortage of restaurants nearby. Room: lots of space, lots of storage, nice to have a kettle etc and little biscuits. LOVED the mattress. Very nice shower with great pressure. Decent breakfast selection if you are not picky about quality. Hot food was delicious, but fruit looked tinned and syrupy. Pastries and little choc muffins a nice touch but bit dry/stale. Very good coffee from the machine, although no decaf except instant sachets. It’s lovely how the windows of the dining room look onto the cathedral. Staff were also very friendly. Check out time generous at 12 pm. Would stay again, specially since the Travelodge next door doesn’t seem to do breakfast.
