How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Only complaint was the yellow lights in the bathroom!
Food including breakfast was delicious, check in was easy as was parking, and our room was very nice with a comfy bed.

Dinner menu is poor. Would struggle to choose something different if staying for a few days. The quality of the food is good and sevice excellent.
Nice location, lovely staff, comfortable hotel. Would stay here again. Breakfast is great as is the service.

The washbasin was diminutive! But that is a small point
Room was very comfortable ,and the king bed extremely comfortable. Shower was good flow rate and the place was spotless.

Only thing I would have liked is twin beds in our family room rather than a double for the children. However we did manage this.
Loved our stay here. Really quick check in which we appreciated as we were going straight to a wedding. Room was lovely, very clean and high quality facilities and decor. Had everything we needed, very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, fresh and hot. Plenty to choose from. Staff very friendly and approachable. Would definitely stay again.

Nothing. Although as it is a ground floor apartment, the bedroom and bathroom window over look the courtyard so we had to keep our blinds downs so other guests could not look in, but I guess this is personal preference. Just a note to future visitors that sometimes parking for long stay can be issue. However you are able to park in the street near the offsite apartment for free.
The offsite apartment was perfect for a few days away in the area. It’s located across from Barnard Castle itself. It is spacious with a full equipped kitchen facility so we did not use the breakfast service on offer at the hotel across the road. The apartment comes equipped with two tvs in the bedroom and lounge. These have access to YouTube, Netflix etc but we took a laptop with a hdmi cable to plug in to the tv. The apartment also comes with a washing machine, perfect for longer stays here. No curfew at the apartment which we needed as we were attending a wedding in the area, so we were able to come and go when we wanted. Barnard Castle has a number of places to go and visit include High Force Waterfall approximately 25 minute drive from the property for people who like to go walking. The apartment comes with a folder of information on the local area, places to go, places to eat etc and comes with WiFi- password is located in this folder. Overall the offsite apartment was spacious, comfortable and clean. We would recommend staying here to anyone and we do plan to return in the future.

I did ask for gluten free biscuits and lactose free milk in the room and this didn't happen

More of a heads up than anything. There is a popular bar on the site and our room at least can be affected from noise from below until midnight when it goes quiet very quickly (at least at weekends). Didn’t bother us but some people may have an issue.
Lovely refurbished rooms, great location, lovely staff, pleasant bar and good restaurant on site.

We parked on the public street parking and had a short walk to the Hotel . Not perfect but it worked out OK.
Our stay was good. Staff are ALL so very courteous and helpful. Room and comfort was very good. Restaurant food was excellent including breakfast and dinner! We will definitely visit again!
