How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The breakfast was superb and the owners were very kind and helpful.
The property was very clean and the room was comfortable. It is right in the main bus route and also directly across from a beautiful path down to the beach.

We loved everything and wished we stayed longer.
John and Linda were outstanding hosts. They really give a great personal touch to their beautiful guesthouse. The breakfast was also a hit, along with John’s super helpful tips! The place is well connected to St. Ives by a short bus trip, train or walk.

Thurlestone House is an old church building converted many years ago into a hotel. It is now an extremely well run Guest House by John and Linda who really make you feel like a special guest. We had a warm welcome from John whose local knowledge was really useful. Exceptionally clean and comfortable room. Lovely walk into St Ives along the cliff path and also on a good bus route. Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order from a quite sophisticated menu. Parking is a bit tight but we thoroughly enjoyed our few days at Carbis Bay.

Nothing really, there was a bit of traffic noise at night. Also, in the summer, when it's busy, there could possibly be parking problems. However, there are nearby alternatives.
John and Linda were so helpful and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. They were the perfect hosts.The rooms were lovely and clean with a Seaview. In the mornings, we had a superb cooked breakfast. Also, the location is so close to St. Ives with buses into town stopping nearby. Down the path opposite is the wonderful sandy Carbis Bay Beach.

The hosts John and Linda were great, very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The breakfast were delicious, the room clean and comfortable and the house close enough to walk into St Ives. There is a path opposite the house down to Carbis Bay beach, so all excellent.

Nothing. The check-in time may pose a difficulty for some but fortunately it coincided with when we were arriving and we were able to leave our luggage in the porch when we checked out
It’s a great location, close to Carbis Bay station and the Carbis Bay beach. The walk into St Ives is not too long (though note that buses aren’t frequent so you will likely need to walk and the walk back is all uphill). The room was nicer than it looked online and very clean and comfortable. Linda and John were wonderful hosts. I am coeliac and really appreciated the effort they went to to provide me with a number of breakfast options (including a very filling cooked breakfast). They were also very helpful with recommendations for places to visit and eat. Overall, it was very good value for money for the location, given that breakfast is also included. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area.

Absolutely everything was great, from arrival to leaving we had a wonderful experience. John and Linda are wonderful hosts. The room was perfectly clean with a comfortable bed and plenty of storage for clothes. Breakfasts were delicious each morning, as was the coffee!

John and Linda are both great people, very kind, funny and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and the breakfast was great - you either have it at 8am or 8.30am - it is freshly cooked for you when you come down for breakfast. There's also yogurt, fresh fruits, cereal etc. The bed was comfy and a decent size room - we stayed in one of the garden view rooms.
