A house of character that gives a great base for exploring Matlock and its surroundings.
    • Leisure trip
    • Family with young children
    • Two-Bedroom House
    • Stayed 3 nights

The shower is a little under-powered. There was some water noise in the pipes during the night. It wasn't a problem for us but the stairs are a bit steep and narrow and might trouble less able guests.

The house was comfortable, equipped and spacious enough for our needs. Location - a stone terrace in a cul-de-sac - and fittings both have some local character which we appreciated. There are great views particularly from the front bedroom. More broadly, we enjoyed Matlock itself, some nice pubs, the chip shop at the bottom of the steps, and the surrounding country very much.

Free parking on a quiet street is 3 minute walk Steep back up from town so not for very young family or infirmed Smaller than photos suggest No drying rack for clothes Bathroom could do with a new shower and bath refresh Rear garden could do with a tidy

Location is good with easy road access Quiet since down a path with no car access Sufficient for a few days Tidy and warm Bedrooms good Beds fine Bathroom downstairs Kitchen fine without washing machine or dishwasher TV seems to be all via internet but ok Pub with decent food ten minute walk

I found it impossible to use the lower key - glad my husband could use it. Downstairs loo was a challenge in the night.

The hill down to the cottage was a bit steep. We coped fine but someone who was more elderly or had knee issues may not.

Quaint cottage with all the essentials. Games and information provided were a nice touch. Beds were very comfortable.

The listing gave the impression there was a dish washer but there isn’t so that was a bit disappointing but not a huge issue. Also the lounge furniture wasn’t that comfortable for us all to sit in the evening. Be aware you need to be a good walker to walk into town and back as the road is very steep but there is a bus service if you want to get the bus back.

Nice clean and bright terrace cottage with amazing views. Lovely neighbours and nice and quiet. Good internet access and the local pub, The Duke Of Wellington was vey welcoming with great food. Just a short stroll away. Great fish and chips just down the steps which work up your appetite walking back up.

Access with a car to unload your belongings is a bit tricky and reversing back up the hill isn’t fun. Also leading up to the stay there just seemed to be sooo many emails received about checking in etc which I feel like could’ve just been one simple email.

The house was clean and has everything you’ll need. Very well equipped kitchen for cooking, towels provided, games in the cupboard was a nice touch. Nice and quiet area.

Firstly, attempting to get to the property is quite a farce, it is down a very steep bank or up very steep steps with no parking beside the property. There is very little to no warning about how steep the journey to the property is. When entering the property, we found the furniture downstairs to be dreadfully uncomfortable and the cupboard handles to be sticky and generally unclean. When venturing upstairs, the property only got worse and needed a serious clean as there were cigarette butt's underneath the double bed. This fact is only made worse by how impolite the 'House Rules' are written in the booklet downstairs. The next morning things only got worse when the shower only dribbled, it was more effective standing in the rain. And the fridge almost toppled onto my mother's feet when she opened it as it is not attached to anything whatsoever despite being built in. Overall, the property was a complete disaster and unworthy of the current price. You would be better looking elsewhere for somewhere to stay even if it was further afield from the town, after all the only way back up to the property from the town is up an extremely steep hill. It is unclean, unsafe and generally unfriendly.

The view from the property was very nice due to its location. But this was probably the only good thing.

The weather was getting cold and we decide to switch on the heating. It's very noisy and doesn't reach the radiators upstairs and only half the bathroom one. There's hell of a draught from around the front door, and when it rained the water came in under the back door. The crockery and cutlery needed washing, which we did before use. The bathroom needs a good scrub. This property needs some care and attention.

Great view from the house and it's a good location to get to places around Derbyshire. The neighbours were chatty and warm. The kitchen was well equipped. The beds were comfy too

A good location as everywhere is within 30 minutes away . A safe environment to stay in with family. The walk downhill to the town is ok, walk back up is steep but a quick call to a taxi and for a mere £4 you're back up there.

I didnt like the massive hill we had to walk up when we came back from matlock town from shopping. There was only one other thing that let the place down & that was the stated there was a washer but this wasnt the case

Its was a really nice little cottage & was in a nice location. I loved how the staff made sure thing was tea, sugar & milk for then we arrived. I feel in love with the kitchen
