A charming oasis off the Head of the Valleys Road

Franz Lehar must have written The Merry Widow in anticipatory celebration celebration of Gail, the owner/manager of Ty Llew Lodge. "Happiness is a choice' she tells me over my breakfast of smoked Usk salmon, scrambled eggs and herbs. She, with her team, led by Tracy, alongside, set out to prove that to be true. They have created a gentle and welcoming oasis in a cul de sac, just walking distance from the centre of the Brecon Beacons town of Abergavenny. The B&B is clean, elegant and very well presented. Please choose the separate bothy room in the back, ideal for lovers, although sadly I was alone. Gail guided me to find three walks on the Beacons and around; Sugarloaf hill, just a few miles away is a 2+ hour trek up to a summit with views over what seems to be all of Wales; Skirryd Fawr is even closer, a steep c 2km climb to another peak, great for an early morning trek; best of all but 30+km to the west was the waterfall walk through the glorious Brecon forests starting in the little village of Pontneddfechan off the A465. I will be coming back to hear more Welsh stories, history and the Gail smile.

The sofa bed could have been more comfortable but had enough pillows to soften the bed.

We arrived late but was welcomed by the host who was very friendly. The staff were also professional even bringing us our breakfast on a tray to our outside accommodation, 5 star rating.

Everything was perfect, so there was nothing I didn’t like!

Such a great welcome from Gail the hostess and her team, they are all so warm and friendly. Lovely room with a window looking out into a beautiful big willow tree. The location was perfect up above the town, quiet but only a short walk to the centre. Breakfasts were amazing! Lots of choice and I really enjoyed all the fruit, and on one day delicious medjool dates. A range of cooked breakfasts including a couple of vegetarian options. Nothing seemed too much to ask, for instance there was no problem when I asked for oatmilk instead of dairy.

Really cozy & homely place to stay with an easy 10mins stroll to town centre. The house is gorgeous and so is the interior. There are plenty to choose from on the breakfast menu and they are all exceptional - Gail is an amazing cook (and a lovely person too, super friendly). Safe for solo travellers too, would recommend.

    Honestly, nothing.

Gail has turned out a really unique and welcoming BnB and it was a great place to stay when in the area for a wedding. The room and overall decor was really tasteful and clean, the breakfast was one of the best breakfast I have had (you won't leave hungry), and Gail and the team offer a really personal and inclusive service. Me and my Partner felt welcome from the minute we arrived and Gail and the team were at hand to help if we needed. We plan to visit Ty Llew Lodge again!

Located a short and comfortable walk from the train station, and into town, Ty Llew Lodge is located on a pretty hill, in a pretty neighborhood. I received a warm greeting from the host, and her two beautiful and friendly Scottish Terrier dogs. I stayed for a single night, in a single room that was well equipped and very comfortable, with lovely views of Abergavenny and the mountains. Breakfast was delicious, the host is passionate about organic, locally sourced foods, and it was a perfect conclusion to a perfect short stay.

    Nothing at all

Lovely room, everything was fresh, clean and sharp. The bed was super comfortable. The shower was a powerful rainfall one, with plenty of hot water. The breakfast was one of the best I've had anywhere - a good choice, very fresh local ingredients and cooked to perfection. Add to all that a really friendly and helpful host and Ty Llew is very hard to beat. We will definitely be back.
