Not the owner’s fault but the bus service into town is abysmal so we needed taxis. Only down side was the stained toilet , doesn’t look like it’s seen bleach or a brush for ages and needs a new seat , it really needs to be sorted.

Nice pub with a decent menu. Breakfasts were great made to order and the staff very helpful. Plenty of parking available onsite. Rooms are in an annex across the yard. Rooms are not the biggest but they are functional. Staff were kind enough to prepare a ground floor room to avoid having to negotiate any stairs. Bathroom very small but good shower.

The rooms felt like they needed a little more attention to cleaning and furniture layout. Some of the furniture (drawers) needed repairing. To make it more comfortable, it would have been nice to have bedside lamps and maybe a few more sockets to aid the increasing technological requirements. Seemed overstaffed in the pub and not enough in the housekeeping roles. Would recommend a review of staff role distribution

Staff were very friendly and very obliging with any requests we made. The food provided on our first night and the Sunday carvery was excellent. Proximity to the railway station was perfect for a day trip to York. Our room was very warm, spacious with plenty of storage.

The menu was disappointing, we would have preferred a more traditional pub food menu . For example, fish and chips, homemade dishes including steak and ale pie, cheese and onion pie, shepherd's pie; also more vegetarian friendly dishes, salads, jacket potatoes etc.

The room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds, staff friendly.

The rooms were small and felt cramped. It would have helped to have a table in the middle of the twin room to put things on. Also, it would help to have hooks in the toilet and shower to put clothes on while you shower. The floor needed a good vaccum.

The staff was really wonderful and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the shower really excellent.

No breakfast was available, the room was very basic, the shower was not adjustable (five jets of water) and the room was expensive for the services provided.

En suite was dirty. Didn’t shower it was so bad. Scum all round the sink. Bed sheet on single bed, thankfully not used, had a big yellow stain by the pillows-didn’t investigate this further.

Room was spacious. Staff lovely, though disorganised & weren’t expecting us. Didn’t know we hadn’t paid. Food in pub was lovely.

we were given an upgrade due to a problem with the booked room that was great however room was not clean had to get staff to clean bathroom room generally grubby at breakfast there dog was loose in the resterant area and was jumping up at set tables layed out for food

The room was excellent, having one large double and two single beds for 3 adults. The food in the restaurant was excellent value, plentiful and delicious. The staff were generous, friendly, kind and helpful. It was also conveniently walking distance to the train station and a convenience store nearby.

The room was not clean. I know some of other reviewers have said this and the pub have responded by criticising rather than apologising. There were dead spiders and cobwebs in the room, above our beds and in the bathroom. The drawer in the unit was broken, no lamp next to the bed so you had to get up to turn it off then make your way back to bed in the dark. And before the in asked why I didn’t say anything at the time, I didnt because we checked in late, it was Xmas night, no staff around later on to speak to. We were only there one night so we cooed.

The room was a good size and it was separate from the pub which made it quiet. However it was Xmas night so the pub was shut so I didn’t have to worry about noise anyways

Very poor room . Have stayed in better student digs. No breakfast. No where to hang towels in bathroom. Dirty. Over priced. Basic room is an understatement. Should have been a family room but got double. Will never be wasting money at this establishment again.

I moved to a bigger room because the single room was too small. The shower and bathroom was so incredibly small that any large person would have great difficulty in fitting in. Considering the price charged I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, as it did not give value for money.

A convenient location suitable for my travel route. Nothing else was particularly good.
