Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA couple of pots of longlife milk would be handy with the welcome tea and coffee, just for muppets like me who forget to pack milk and have to trail to Helmsley for some.
Cosy, comfy, clean cottage in a peaceful location. Lovely base for exploring the area. Our second 3 night visit and have left both times wishing we could have stayed longer. Would happily stay again even just for the fresh air and countryside views.

United KingdomMost people are not visiting this cottage to watch television - so it's a minor issue, but the reception left much to be desired.
Overall - extremely pleased by the facilities and location of the guest cottage - warm and comfortable, quiet and beautiful surrounds, fabulous views and everything you needed. Tastefully decorated with a blend of genuine quality furnishings and practical touches. Saw a range of wildlife as well as the spectacular scenery. Relaxing back lane drives and many spots to pull over and just drink in the views. Easy access to Helmsley for coffee shops or quick groceries. Some hills are challenging if you cycle!

United KingdomSimply as dog owners found light coloured carpets throughout accomodation (including in kitchen area) daunting. Would have benefited from an outside hose (we found a watering can) to clean dogs and maybe an overhanging porch for rainy days as directly enter onto said cream carpet from outdoors. We placed towels down but maybe a more serviceable runner along patio door entrance would be handy.
Location was peaceful. Comfortable and clean accommodation.

United KingdomBe aware you are in the countryside so need to drive along small country roads to get anywhere. Although Helmsley is not far away.
Stayed in Couch cottage which was perfect for the 2 if us and our dog. It was enclosed so safe for the dog. Lovely countryside views from the cottage.

United KingdomWe loved everything! We didn't get chance to do any of the walks from the cottage because of the weather, but we'll definitely do them when we stay again.
Our cottage was gorgeous! It was cute, practical, warm, so quiet and the scenery was just amazing! We had our own little fenced off courtyard area so our dog could nip out for a sniff without us worrying that she's escape. The location was fabulous! We were a 10 minute drive from Helmsley and there was a little welcome folder with lots of restaurant and attraction recommendations. We've already recommended Valley View Farm Holiday Cottages to our friends and we can't wait to visit again!

United KingdomMaybe a small amount of milk for an initial drink when you arrive. Really nothing at all to complain about though!
Beautiful little place in stunning location. It is on a working farm so heavy machinery working late at night and early in the morning but this didn't bother us at all, in fact it added to the idyllic setting. The place was very clean, cosy and comfortable. There was a small amount of tea and coffee provided but no milk, however there are supermarkets a ten min drive away in Thirsk, something to bear in mind if you are arriving late. In the accommodation there was a folder containing lots of handy information including some lovely local walks. The gardens of the accommodation were individually fenced, however the one we stayed in had large gate which the dogs could get under, therefore we kept the dogs on their leads when 'toiletting', again not a problem to us. We would definitely stay here again, it would be ideal for groups who want separate accommodation but close together.

United KingdomI feel it would be a good idea to have a gate that locks for people staying with dogs and a sofa rather than chairs would be more comfortable. We were also a little disappointed that we did not have the view over the moors from our cottage.
Lovely cottage with everything we could have needed available, beautiful location with great views.
