Bathroom needed updating. Couldn’t open bathroom door properly as a sink is in the way. Just needs a shower and no bath

The building is amazing, so unique and fabulous setting . Great size too. With wonderful sea views!

Service beyond expectation, I asked when I checked in at reception if they had avocado at breakfast and was told unfortunately not...but to my surprise the lady in reception bought 2 especially for me. Breakfast is normally served at 08:00 and they opened the kitchen early at 07:00 just for me. Incredible service

A very warm welcome from lovely staff, thoughtful touches (hot water bottle after your swim?) beautiful and interesting things everywhere you look, comfy beds. Great location just by the tidal pool and an excellent buffet breakfast. We loved that our triple was 2 adjoining rooms. We can't wait to come back.

N/A We understand the reasons for not currently serving other meals. The limited menu is good quality and served in style.

Friendly and really helpful staff. They and the owner, Mrs Bishop, seemed genuinely interested in their guests and wanting to assist. The breakfast was good- fresh fruits, tasty hot food, good quality all round. The atmosphere was relaxed and service excellent throughout the day.

What a gem! Quirky but comfortable, all 14 of us (kids included) loved our stay. The museum cubby holes on each floor of the hotel were a constant source of fun, the hotel staff worked tirelessly to meet all our needs (particularly the bar staff who stayed open until we decided to call it a night)! Rooms were large and comfy, ours had a balcony which added to the seaside vibe :) If you're a Tracey Emin fan, you'll love the nod to her and the general creative feeling, we met the hotel owner who was so welcoming and advised us on places to eat in the town centre. We also loved the location, it's literally just above the Walpole Bay natural lido and the walk along the front in to Margate was also brilliant (around 20 mins on the beach). We truly loved our stayed and can't wait to visit again - Thank you!

The Walpole Bay Hotel has a lovely traditional, oldie-worldly atmosphere about it, a refreshing change from the “could be anywhere” style of modern hotel chains. The staff are delightful, the location is great, and they provide an outstanding “worth the stay on its own” breakfast.

A really romantic, special break, which felt unique start to finish in the hotel full of character.

The rooms were a little dated, what can you expect if you go to somewhere for it's character! It has a few quirks, like a really loud flush, and a weak shower, but it really didn't bother us when we had a super cute balcony to watch the sunset from. A few little decorative tweaks in the bedroom/bathroom would help it feel a little more special, but it didn't effect our stay.

This hotel was truly special, unlike anywhere we've stayed at before. If you're looking for somewhere full of history, character and charm this place is perfect. The buffet breakfast was one of the best breakfasts we've had in ages, and just a charming set up. The staff were great too, with, what you can tell is a long vested love for the hotel and the location it's set in.

I liked everything about the hotel. I can’t fault it. But what you need to realise is that it is an old hotel that’s being renovated very sympathetically. So it is not like a Premier Inn! Thank goodness!!

All the staff were really helpful and couldn’t do enough to make our stay brilliant. Lovely old hotel with a very interesting array of old artifacts in their museum. A very pleasant place to stay. And a sea view!

Bathroom was ok. Water pressure in the shower was very weak so it felt like chasing the drops! Odd not to have a toilet roll holder in a hotel bathroom!

Really friendly and caring staff. Great decor in the hotel area. Fantastic location too, a short seafront walk to the centre. Excellent breakfast. Nice biscuits and water in the room.

Unfortunately we couldn't find a restaurant within walking distance to eat at. Although it was a Friday night, very few local places were open in the evening. The pubs were not that family friendly either.

My son and I enjoyed exploring the hotel's treasures. The family room was like a suite with a separate space for parents and kids which was a lovely surprise. The hotel is so quirky and interesting, but the facilities are modern and suitable for a short stay. A treat.

It was a shame there was no evening meal as we are sure it would have been just as good as the breakfast.

The breakfast was excellent, our room was comfortable and cosy. We loved wandering around looking at the museum and art. All the staff were happy, efficient and ready to help with all our needs. The lift was a joy to ride in too.

The cable on the kettle was too short, so the kettle had to be filled on the floor. I really can't think of any other negative aspects.

This hotel is fantastic on so many levels. It’s not simply a place to stay with a lovely sea view, generous friendly staff, fabulous breakfast and a minute away from the seafront - it’s also a best kept secret. Two floors have an art gallery of napkin art from famous punters and normal folk - very fun! But it’s the history that makes you want to hang around indoors when you’ve really come to see the sea. The second floor has a museum of household items and clothing and typewriters and seaside pictures and all sorts from the last hundred years. It’s a curious eclectic collection, and if you ask, you’ll get to see the ledgers of guest lists too!! And it’s run by Jane, the maverick collector and storyteller who will regale you with tales over breakfast.

Excellent. Great selection for breakfast, well cooked and very pleasantly served. Staff outstanding, friendly and professional. The whole ambience was elegant and the uniqueness and authenticity of the venue was exceedingly well-preserved. It offers a journey back in time with many fascinating and interesting features which make this a "stand-out" venue. If you are looking for something different or unusual that is certainly not pretentious or tacky, then visit the Walpole Bay Hotel.

No draught beer ! One of the local Kent ones would be brilliant.

Fantastic staff and ambience. So much history and attention to detail. Loved the old lift worth a visit on its own. Breakfast exquisite top ingredients excellent filter coffee and kippers. Floor walk by the owner an added bonus. Best of all three tired cyclists. The dining room is victorian with ww2 music playing gently. They no longer do food but have an extensive number of takeaway contacts. Having a takeaway in a superb dining room with a great ambience was an absolute first and fantastic.

Could do with more self space in the bathroom

The breakfast selection was what we would expect. It was a family hotel and it was really nice that the owner visited every table and chatted to the guests. The museum and pictures helped make it a unique hotel. Although we had a rear facing room it had a great sea view which was an unexpected bonus. All the staff were so friendly and helpful
