Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. United KingdomTucked away in small print was a small statement that there was not any parking and therefore there was an added cost of £9 a day in a car park that one had to walk to. There was no mention of this when we arrived as there wasn't any obvoius instructions. There was a possible £100 parking fine if one parked by the apartment. It would have made it so much less stressfull if the best place to park was obvious when we arrive after a 10hr drive. The book of instuctions was tucked away with cookery books and only came to light a day or so latter. If the instuctions were left out for one to see/find with parking on the front page it would have been more useful. The were plenty of pots and pans but they were in a poor state; see photo

Excellent flat. Very good location. Had all the necessary facilities, and they had tea and coffee and laundry detergent for our use.

CanadaThere were three of us so the bedrooms worked. Second bedroom is a bit small.We have a suggestion it was 12£ a day at a nearby lot then we discovered online parking at Sainsburys for discount if 8£ a day! Fridge not working very well didn’t matter for us as we were out with family all the time.
Location was excellent to get around city. Loved that the apartment had 2 full bathrooms! Kitchen had everything you need. Nice size!

Hong KongThe level of the riverside promenade is higher than the apartment so that I could not see River Lune in the apartment.
The hosts are nice and helpful. The apartment is located on the ground level of a 6-storey block. It enjoys a quiet environment yet it's convenient. Train station, bus station and city center are within reach in a few minutes' walk. A large supermarket is right next to the Waterside. Inside the apartment, the decoration is elegant. Outside the windows is a secluded small communal garden paved with green grass and well trimmed bushes are at the northern end by the bottom of a stone wall which demarcates the riverside promenade.

United StatesThe unit could use some better care and a serious cleaning. When we entered the unit, it was clear that someone had recently been smoking a cigarette indoors. Similarly, when the TV is turned on, the smell of stale cigarette smoke comes out. The dishwasher has a foul smell that suggests it has not been properly aired out, and the oven had a pool of grease that smoked heavily when we preheated the oven, making it not particularly usable. Lastly, the main room has something of a "leather shag" rug that was absolutely filthy and probably needs to be binned. We aired the place out as much as we could while staying here, but all of our clothes and luggage came out smelling like stale smoke with a touch of the damp.
The owners were responsive and friendly, good location.
