Heating system had no instructions so took us a while to heat the room up. There was no where to put clothes other than an open hanging rail, no drawers or shelves. The shower door in our room did not open, it was blocked by the sink and the hand rail of the bath. This made it difficult and somewhat dangerous as entry and exit was via the small gap at the sloped end of the bath with nothing to hold on to. I think this really needs to be addressed. Room service was not particularly good value for money. One dish arrived with a cloche over it, the other (prawn linguine) and the bowl of fries were not covered so by the time we had eaten our starters, those dishes were cold.

The room was lovely, nicely decorated and clean. breakfast was very good, lots of choices and all looked tasty.

The lounge was sparsely furnished and more seating would have given that a cosier look.

We really loved the very warm welcome we received from all of the staff on duty as soon as we entered the Mercure. Only stayed for 1night but spent the following day relaxing around the hotel. Staff could not do enough for us and we all felt very welcome and cosy on a miserable wet day even after checkout at 12.00 but not leaving the hotel untill 18.00. Our bedroom was very small in size but a wonderful nights sleep in the most comfortable bed and bed linen.

Although our blip with our last smell and the unpleasantries of our conjoined room smoking A class. We gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt and we were pleased with our stay. Clean and comfy. Usually is a great hotel. Just put the last incident down to a little mistake. Although a little upset that no manager or anyone had try to communicate with us about the issue prior or even compensate even though they commented they would contact me.

For parking They do not accept tap card it has to be chip n pin , I do not carry cards as I use tap payment from my phone. And I do not carry cash either .Luckily I had £10 cash in pocket to pay £7 parking otherwise they said I have to park out of the parking on side road somewhere . When I asked it does not say on booking.com she ( receptionist) said that they have told booking.com so many times that for parking payment only cash or chip and pin. I felt very embarrassed in front of other guests.

Not the closest hotel to Birmingham City centre and had to pay parking - £7 per night (not too bad compared to others where you have to pay each time you enter and exit though)

Staff were very friendly. The rooms were of a decent size and kept clean. Were able to use all the complimentary facilities such as the steam room/ sauna/ hot tub and pool without it being too busy.

How noisy and busy the spa was. A lot of locals are members - as the facilities are so good, but this meant it was incredibly busy. The sauna, my reason for choosing this hotel, was like a tin of sardines! Maybe specific times for guests only would be nice. It wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped and will prevent me from returning

The people were very friendly. I liked the health spa facilities

It's a bit much to charge £7 for overnight parking with such a massive car park.

The much improved furnishings and carpets and 'look' of the hotel. A step up from what was offered before in its wide range of names. Breakfast which finished at 10.30 a.m. and the offer of freshly cooked eggs as an alternative to scrambled. Friendly reception.

Didn’t sell any non-alcoholic beer. No sky TV in main lounge area. One of 2 big TV ‘s in that area wasn’t working and hadn’t been for a while so staff told us. Couldn’t have an omelette at weekends only during the week!

Hotel was showing quite a lot of signs of wear and tear. The first night the corridor outside our room stank of cigarettes and possibly weed.

Evening meal was fantastic quality, great chef. Spa facilities were good with very friendly staff.

We weren't given any information with regards to the leisure facilities on check in. Pool changing area was grubby. Paint peeling in bathroom. Hooks on the back of the bathroom door were hanging off. No light bulb in the tall, floor standing lamp.

    Friendly staff. Comfortable room.
