Overall, our room was tidy but those hard to reach places needed a bit more attention, for example, the bed frame was a bit grubby in the carvings on the head board and fooot board.

Thoughtful retention of period features, attentive and friendly staff, breakfast menu and competitive pricing.

The only issue is the beds are quite low to the ground and some of the cutlery were Abit tarnished but overall small issues.

The room was so clean, bathroom amazing, room service was as great too. Overall an amazing birthday trip and I’d visit again.

For working in the room it wasn't great as the coffee machine and lamp took up all the room - better if this could be placed elsewhere

Bed was super comfortable and the sound proofing was good so I had a goo nights sleep.

The black security guy in the mornings is super rude and kept giving me dirty looks each time I passed him and hated when I asked for some tea bags milk sugar etc

The room i had was ok but the view was not good at all literally 3ft from the window was a roof so the view was of a felt room with moss on it Shame, just don't stay in room 104

See above No lift due to the supposed historic listing Is an excuse The disabled act easily works with historic England I found 2places a simple persons/ wheelchair lift could be fitted ! The fact your Reception reacted so positively 1. Upgrading us 2. Moving quickly with helping the suitcases was a very clever move Those two points alone meant we did not give up and drive somewhere else . Your breakfast chap was on his own and struggling until who I assumed was the DM or poss GM grappled a cloth and cleaner and cleaned the tables as we finished our breakfast a young lady ( extra) turned up

The breakfast is on par I’m afraid with Premier inns You need to think seriously if you want to fill your hotel . The outside Parking is atrocious. Moving suitcases ( needed 2) to the car park on what can only be described as shingle is a real let down

Location, setting, staff, food, room

Beautiful setting and amazing staff, friendly and polite couldn’t be more accommodating. Girl on the desk was so welcoming, opening doors & chatting. We booked this last minute as we were in the area buying a new car and decided not to drive back to Teeside. She upgraded our room without us asking and made our stay great.

It’s noisy if there is an event on. We we told we couldn’t use the bar despite it not being Midnight and there was an event still on

It was Xmas day, no bar or restaurant, but other than that, nice stay, good breakfast.

Unfortunately we stayed during a storm and being an old building the windows were very loud. Nothing the hotel could have done.

The staff were friendly, the room was comfortable and very clean and well presented! The bar area was comfortable and the drinks were superb, breakfast was also very nice.

Although the breakfast was great, there wasn't a huge selection. Security could be improved-as we were checking in, a foul mouthed lady entered the reception area and started screaming and shouting. Though the staff did manage this well. Price was a bit much.

Queries were relatively quickly answered on Booking.com. Check In process was quick and smooth. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The Junior Suite was very spacious. Breakfast was great.

A couple of the rooms on 2nd floor were very cold. On the Sat night of our visit, we had an unruly person shouting and swearing in the corridor at 2am and then 2.30am. Quite scary as outside our door. The next day there was a massive wedding with drums in the reception, quite early. This was fine but we couldn’t tell anybody about the disturbance the night before!

Historic grandeur sympathetically restored. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Set in an large park with ancient trees, pond and outdoor gym equipment. Great for a walk or run. Park run just outside on a Saturday morning. The staff were amazing friendly, helpful and attentive. Couldn’t fault them. Fantastic food. Great breakfasts. Excellent meal in the restaurant on Christmas Eve. Overall a great stay. Would go again.
