Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt’s noisy at night — pubs playing loud music so it won’t be quiet before 2 or 3 am. If you’re a light sleeper it’s not a good choice to stay here. The room is big but the facility is old.
The location is convenient, near many pubs.

United StatesBetter if there was a kitchen or at least a kettle. Check out time is too early. They need to put up a sign to remind guests that there are, in my case, 7 other people wanting to use the shower/toilet and that they need to limit their time to 5-8 minutes.
Pro: Location could not have been better...BUT... Con: It was so close to the adjacent music venues that it was extremely loud every night until 2am.

MexicoUnlike the photos, the room was a bit small, and beds 1 & 2 were too close to the wall, leaving little space to move around
Definitely the location is the best in this hostel, besides the facilities and the staff.

JapanWhile it's a convenient and nice location, it's noisy from outside until midnight, and this is the first time I've had to pay for luggage storage.

New ZealandThe lift broke down for the second time in a two weeks apparently. The dorm room was extremely stuffy and had poor lighting but I guess you get what you paid for. Continental breakfast was very basic, just cereal and toast.
Easy to deal with my luggage as it costs just £3 to store a suitcase for a day, so I could arrive very early. My experience with staff was good, although I witnessed one foreigner not receive the same friendly reception, granted the staff we under pressure. Brilliant location, although take note that it's on a very noisy and busy street with the Cavern Club on the same street.

GermanyShower drain clogging. Windows were not allowed to be closed before sleep, to reduce noise from street, but was not allowed because of air circulation needs (This can be solved by forced air circulation, so it can be closed at night)
Located in the city center. Friendly staff.

United KingdomIt felt that it had not been cleaned regularly, sticky floors in the dorm dirt on walls and sills. I know the price was good but with this improvement I this hostel would be excellent.

United KingdomThere were no hooks in the room nor in the bathroom, so not ideal when you arrive wet due to rain, or simply want to put your clothes somewhere else than on the floor in the shower. Luggage storage is additionally paid (£2). The breakfast was definitely overpaid and not worth the money. It can be quite loud as the hostel is close to pubs.
The location is convenient, the bathroom was clean, the staff is friendly and check-in was smooth even though I arrived quite late at night. If you forget a padlock for a locker, you can buy one at the hostel (£4). You get 25% discount for food and drinks at the cafe/bar below. You can avoid the noise of the night life if you end up on the fourth floor nicely isolated in a tiny room under the roof.

United KingdomNothing to report.
There were 13 of us split between 3 dorm rooms with 6 beds each, and we found the rooms sizeable. Each had a locker per person, and there was a shower room and toilet in each of the rooms. Location was great, would stay again.

United KingdomSpecific location of the building seems to be inside one of the busiest streets playing loud music until late evening / early morning with little to no soundproofing. It can also get quite hot and smelly in a fairly small space for 8 people so windows need to be kept open, which doesn't help with the noise.
General area location is central so you're near everything

BoliviaThe noisy life during the night. Many bars side to side, good location to walk to the main attractions but during the night it was hard to sleep.
I really appreciated the warm and friendly service at the reception desk. Also, I enjoyed the variety of milk options available at the restaurant, and the quality of the pizza was great. If possible, I would have preferred a smaller size, though.

United KingdomJust door code issues. And the rooms could be a little more decorated and cosy. They are very basic, but again, value for money and beds where OK for what you pay for, and is in the heart of Matthew Street. Bar should stay open later in my view they close a little early for those who are on their holidays there.
Staff where lovely and accommodating. Problem getting in after being out as code didn't work, but the manager was kind and apologetic and gave complimentary coffee. But, was very annoying as couldn't get in on first night and was cold. I had to go and then return later on when opened in early morning. Is noisy there, but to be expected as it is Matthew Street. Good value for money and the staff are really nice overall. Would be a great place for groups even on a few nights out in Liverpool as one night there is cheaper than a taxi home if you lived in the Wirral or other places in Liverpool. Will definitely stay again.
