Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Saudi ArabiaThe rooms are average in terms of decoration...rather minimalist. The TV only has a few channels (CNN, BBC, TV5...and some movie channels from Saudi Arabia... ). The AC only works with the room key in the slot, so had to request an additional key to ensure that the room was always cool when entering. Recommend giving a heads up to the hotel so that they make sure the room is cooled before you checking, especially if you are planing on a late check in at night.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel has a beautiful situation overlooking the ocean with the private pools for the lower rooms. The main pool is nice and the direct access to the beach is definitely of great value.

United KingdomA bit of a smell from the drains in the bathroom during the daytime. A great variety of food ( fruit and desserts) but not tending to the palette of African travellers. Where was the famous Gambian jollof? Some of the hot food was over salted. Consitency in staff hospitality. Some of the chefs were aloof

NetherlandsFlies everywhere. I could hardly have breakfast without flies in and around my food. Also the hotel is very strict on guests. The receptionists embarassed me when I walked in with a friend and asked me to pay for double occupancy right in front of everyone. They need some experience. Also I had no water in my room on the first day. Also a few cockroaches in my room.
Lovely hotel. Pool right infront of your room is amazing. Also not busy during summer months. I didnt try the food as I preferred to eat at Senegambia which is just 2km away. I will stay here next time in Gambia. Hopefully the staff is more welcoming. The ladies are nice but the guys are not.

United KingdomThe food was of a good standard, but the menu could have been rotated on a weekly basis as it was the same while we were there. Maybe there could have been some entertainment as there was none.
Good location right on the beach, rooms were cleaned every day and fresh water and towels provided. Very relaxing and quiet, staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Lots of security although I didn't think is was necessary as the people are very friendly there. Room was a good size, if you want sun all day on your terrace pick blocks 1-3, we had a swim up room on block 3. Exchange bureau on site.

United StatesThere’s a lot of bugs that got inside the room of all sizes. Facility needs to work on sealing doors, screen doors, and windows shut. There needs to be more breakfast options, was mainly eating the same thing every morning.
Close to the beach, had a private pool, was able to watch Netflix on tv, great food.

United KingdomThe restaurant staff could do with a little bit of training. Service from the restaurant manager was exceptional but the waiters and waitresses were struggling with the bare minimum. Breakfast options could do with a bit of diversity, we had the same exact thing for the entire two-week stay.
I loved my stay at African Princess, the hospitality, professionalism and helpfulness of the staff was remarkable. My sincere gratitude to the reception team led by Ismayl who made our check-in experience effortless. Sanaa from housekeeping was a joy and our entire team was especially pleased. The property is quite new and seemingly well-maintained, the pools were exceptionally clean, and the rooms were quite large with lots of storage spaces. The wifi was a bit spotty and the frequent power outages didn't help but thankfully the hotel has an automated power generator. Direct access to a clean and secure beach was a bonus!

EstoniaThe pricing is insane! Booking via booking.com didn't get me the "sea view" room that I reserved! Instead I got a lower level room (that had no sea view) for a same price. How could I get compensated? Also, towels and furniture wasn't as clean as one would expect for that money. Also, if guests are living above you, the noise is quite remarkable.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Location quite good - if you prefer more silent area. To drive to "city centre" or any special attractions, one would still need to pay 3-4€ for the taxi. But the taxi drivers in front of hotel are reliable and decently filtered. Generally good European quality building, although cleanliness wasn't quite according to the European standard.

NigeriaSome things though need to change. Water treatment for the shower needs to improve. It was really hard water and my bath soap struggled to lather. The buffet breakfast was very limited in menu. So was the lunch and dinner menu. They need to expand this and feature more African dishes. I struggled with what to eat often. I also had LOTS of mosquitoes in my room on the first night. For a hotel of that standard, this was ATROCIOUS! I had to use my hand to kill mosquitoes to be able to sleep. This means that they are not thorough and the room cleaners were not careful. I left these comments at the reception. I plan to visit again in another week or so and I'd hope to see that things have changed.
I loved the pools in front of the rooms. The beach front was also a MAJOR attraction. The concept was solid and beautiful. The ambience was right. The pools overlooking the beach front was also beautiful. The spaces were neat and tidy, well manicured. The staff were courteous and were happy to please guests. The flowers and pools with lighting combined to give the space a very lovely ambience. For the little options on their menu, their chef were good enough and I enjoyed the meals I had at the restaurant. The room was sizeable, large and clutter free. I struggled with the television but eventually figured it out.

United KingdomVery hard to find fault. We were off season so it was quiet. As a result there were no 'activities' but some might think that a plus!
This sets a new standard for Gambia hotels. Hard to criticise anything. Staff great, reception professional, food very good, pool great, ATM at the entrance, bureaui de change inside and a credit card machine that worked both times it was needed.
