Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Good place to start a trip to the Gambia especially if you like birdwatching. Comfortable bungalow, lovely gardens and swimming pool and bar. Breakfast on the front terrace every morning was a delight. Great to place relax and unwind. Food was good - we ate at The Captain's Table every night!! If you're looking for a bird guide, find The Professor on the bridge - he's amazing!!

United KingdomOn arrival we were told that we could only pay in euros cash, which we didn't have and caused me a sleepless night. In the morning a different receptionist said that cash in sterling or dalasi was fine!
Good breakfast but you had to ask for many of the items which on the first day you didn't know were available. Love the location (stayed in the area before)

United KingdomNo fan or A/C in our room. The surrounding area especially the craft market lacks charm.
Individual and smallish scale. Accommodation comfortable. Meals good. Service good, with helpful staff. Quieter than the horrible SeneGambia strip.

United KingdomFrightened a bit when we were told we could only pay in cash euros, as we didn't have any. However, that was an error and we paid sterling cash.
Breakfast was good but you had to ask for the extras such as jam and fruit.

United KingdomMaybe rooms offered could be better described in 'Availability'.
Fantastic location 30m from wonderful Kotu beach and Ali Baba leisure beds & beach bar...comfortable basic rooms (fab Grohe rain shower in ours) and with a lovely pool. Gardens with birds, monkeys and a few cats, not forgetting the giant tortoises. Woken each morning to the sonorous notes of the Bulbuls. Food OK albeit service sometimes slow...allowance, this is Gambia! 😄

United KingdomJust needed more information at check in the basics like Wi-Fi, breakfast times etc The bar staff were not the friendliest.
The rooms are set in wonderful lush gardens with large trees at the back giving it a jungle feel. The viewing platform looking towards the creek. The attached food market and excellent Boss lady Gambian food restaurant. The rooms are stylishly decorated.

United KingdomThe choice of food is very limited. We could not pay for the room by card - which means you have to carry large amounts of cash - it is very straight-forward with an internet connection. Not good for customers. I didn't like a member of staff waking me up at night to pay bar/restaurant bill which could have waited til the morning
The location is great. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The pool is nice.

United KingdomThe shower curtain moves with the shower water and the whole bathroom gets wet. Maybe a door would be better.
We loved the property. It is really well taken care of, there is attention to detail. The gardens are wonderful, the staff very friendly. There is a charming restaurant next to the property. It is an oasis of calm. The bed was comfortable, it was good to have mosquito nets at the window so that they stay opened at night, the swimming pool although small was great with sun lounger with padding, the food is good, the massage next door very good, We had a wonderful enjoyable restful week at Bakotu.

IndiaFrom booking.com I got the impression that it is a beachfront property with a sea view. It is nothing like that A road and a crafts market separates the property from the sea. The room had no fan. We had to hire one! And there were bed bugs. See photo of my arm. Bathroom is tiny. We had rented a standard twin room.
Liked their collection of sculptures. The area around the pool was tastefully decorated.

SpainThe nefarious management of the facility. The ceiling fans of the rooms were removed and portable fans were offered, obviously charging an extra cost. The same condition applied to the minibar and AC. However, the most serious drawback was the lack of generator. During the afternoons, there were blackouts, but it never started up.
The hotel is similar to other hotels in the area, nice swimming pool, friendly staff, location close to the sea and quite clean. In this case, it is worth noting that the bathrooms were recently refurbished.
