I spent one night at Feel Free Lodge and felt at home from the very first moment. The view is amazing, the lodge is on the beautiful beach and there is the possibility to walk through the villages on the island. I did it and met so many friendly people around. Sheriffo, the owner of the lodge, helped me with the logistics to reach the place. He and his staff are so kind! The best experience for a mix of relax and discovery.

    Nothing.

We used this quiet place for digital detox. The Feel Free Lodge is located on a remote island and has the quietest beach we have ever visited. It is perfect for relaxing, swimming and bird watching. The manager Sheriffo was very friendly, most helpful, very reliable and considerate. Getting to the Feel Free Lodge is a nice adventure: We used a taxi, a ferry, a canoe, a donkey cart, a motor bike on the beach and a raft for getting there and back again.

Feel Free Lodge is an exceptional place, a corner of paradise. From the moment you arrive. The staff are exceptional and cannot do enough for you, always with a smile. The main man Shariff is absolutely fantastic and went out of his way to ensure our stay was perfect.

Low key place at a distant beach.

There are a few problematic things to mention here. The rooms are not exactly clean, especially the showers and toilets. More problematic is the way to get there. Upon request, I was told "there is transport available in Barra". Good information for a Gambian, but if you don't know how it works, you are lost. In Barra, go to the ferry, then turn 180 degree and walk down the street. At the first junction, there is a public transport (gelli gelli) going to the island. But...only very rarely. You can keep walking and stick left to get to the river. There you can cross by a small float maintained by some boys. They will ask 100 Dalassi...give them 10. The ferry to Banjul costs 25, so 10 is more than reasonable. Then find a motorbike taxi there, if you dare. It is 250 Dalassi, but you can get it down to 200 or even less. BUT...be careful. I fell of the bike, ripped my pants and underwear (and nearly my important parts), had a big black spot on my leg and a cut on my thump. Some apologies were offered and the driver went off. And I walked. Saver and a good beach walk of 5-6 km, but make sure you don't do that in the midday sun. Best option is probably to ask the people from the lodge to pick you up. He is a good driver. Also, bring enough money, there is no ATM. And be aware that the beach is full of old shoes. Maybe you can find a matching pair.

The lodge is located in a quiet village on the northern border of The Gambia. Consequently, it is quiet there. The lodge is directly at the beach, with is a good thing and the staff is really, really friendly and cooks pretty good food.

No real issues. I'd just be sure to know that it's rustic accommodations and very isolated. Those were positives for us, but make sure expectations are correct.

Fantastic hospitality and a great spot to get away from it all for a few days. Good food, and Sheriff was very accommodating, making sure that our 2 year old was going to be happy with the meals. We all had a great time!
