Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsAs with so many others, there is no gym but one is advertised (though I didn’t book it because of that). Yes, they have one weight machine that is supposed to give you a full body workout but because literally one half not working & the other half can only be used one at a time (also falling apart) it meant that you have to be extremely creative in order to manage about 4-5 sets of a limited exercise. I usually work out but was warn about it from other reviews so I only went once to see for myself. I had to share each exercise with another person due to only one part working. It was fine but of course made everything take twice as long. I gave it a pass and decided it wasn’t worth fighting over if someone happened to come to workout.
the location couldn’t be better. close to the main town but not so close that it was noisy. The whole hotel was clean and tidy an a real pleasure to be there.

NetherlandsThe gym was a big disappointment, none of the 4 treadmills worked and I liked this hotel because it also supposibly had gym facilities. We did not like the dinerbuffet so much, but that's personal. If you like a buffet, it's fine I guess. We just love Greek food in a Greek atmosphere so we went dining in town. To bad we couldn't book the hotel without diner.
The hotel is comfortable and clean, nice rooms with a lovely (side-)oceanview. Great pool and nice beach. Really love the luxurious sunbeds and we were fond of the beach/poolboys who removed the towels from people who reserved sunbeds without using them, people like that should not stay at a 5star hotel. We liked the a la carte restaurant at the pool during daytime. It's just a short walk to town for shopping and restaurants.

RomaniaThe gym didn't have any individual weights, not even small ones, and there was no bench at all nor weights bar. In fact for a man used to workout with independent weights, there isn't much in the gym, except a questionable all in one piece. Ladies used to do a weights workout can't do much either. For most of the 2 weeks the muesli was mixed with some chocapic. While at dinner there were generally plenty of fruit, at breakfast there were some very green bananas, oranges and kiwi, sometimes, , but rarely, melon, while the fruit salad was from a can. Therefore, it wasn't much choice for someone who eats muesli with fresh fruit in the morning. There was no way to connect the TV with the laptop or the phone to watch movies. The beach sunbeds were very heavy to move around if one wanted to ensure shade.
The location is very good, close to the city and to the windsurf bays. While to the city one can walk, for windsurf a car is needed. The room was spacious enough and clean. Dinner was good. There is also a supermarket nearby. Lunch can be served at the hotel or at the two tavernas nearby. The tavernas serve very good food. The beach toilets were always very clean, very much appreciated.

SwitzerlandWhile the hotel staff was adhering well to CoVid safety measures, some of the guests did not and e.g. did not wear masks in the elevator. While I understand it is difficult for hospitality services to reprimand customers, I would have personally preferred hotel staff to enforce safety measures a bit more strictly.
The Alimounda Mare Hotel is located conveniently directly at the beachfront in walking distance of Pigadia's many excellent restaurants and several shops and supermarkets. The staff was very friendly and professional, tours organised through the hotel were super and the breakfast and dinner buffets were great, too. The pool and beach facilities have everything you need, with the small caveat that the stretch of beach on which the hotel is located has a mix of pebbles, rocks and sand (esp in the water). The hotel has built a convenient entry point to go swimming, but it's still useful to have watershoes - which you can buy cheaply at a nearby super market. Regarding CoVid: One of the reasons we decided to go to Karpathos was due to its low CoVid incidence rate at the time of our stay. The hotel also had additional measures in place that made us generally feel safe.

United StatesRoom service coffee is served in takeaway cups. No handheld shower, just an overhead shower which in Greece a handheld is a standard given even in a 50€ room. No form of milk offered with coffee machine even after several requests. Beach Bar service at least 45 minutes to get a drink. Unacceprable‼️
The property does not hold a 5 star rating for service and room amenities

IsraelI would advise against staying at the Alimounda Mare hotel due to several concerning issues we encountered during our visit. Firstly, we had booked a premium room with a promised sea view and paid a premium price for it, but upon arrival, we were assigned a room with a disappointing tree obstructed view. These trees obstructed our view of the sea entirely, which was not what we had paid for. When I attempted to address this matter with the hotel's reception, I was directed to speak with George, the manager. However, my attempts to meet with George were met with evasive responses, as I was consistently told that he would "be here shortly" or "just left a few minutes ago." Furthermore, the hotel's amenities left much to be desired. The Wi-Fi service and internet connection were consistently weak and often non-functional. The room was not adequately cleaned, the water pressure in the shower was exceedingly low, the in-room safe was quite small, and the balcony lacked proper lighting, making it impossible to enjoy in the evenings for reading or relaxation. It is my belief that this hotel is better suited for large groups rather than individual guests. While its location is excellent, the management appears to be careless and unresponsive to guest concerns. If you are seeking a private vacation experience in Karpathos, I would recommend choosing a small boutique hotel with a well-regarded reputation for personalized management rather than opting for a larger hotel that fails to meet its guests' expectations. In summary, I believe that the Alimounda Mare hotel falls short of deserving a 5-star rating and would more appropriately be rated at 3 stars.
The swimming pool and the dining room were OK.

AustraliaThe Airconditioning in the dining room was non existent. It was so hot that the yoghurt was forming a thick crust on top. Was too scared to eat most of the food in fear of getting food poisoning . Very understaffed. The manager seemed to brush off our concerns. Pool had algae in it. There was no where to go with friends inside the hotel that was air conditioned to enjoy a drink. Expected us to sit outside, were it so windy and hot
The rooms were comfortable

IsraelThis year the hotel made a significant upgrade in management and service and we especially want to mention Giorgos from the dining room and Maria Gerapetriti who is the Guest Relations and Tatiana from the pool bar 👍👍👍 We want to thank the new general manager Erricos Liappis who was nice and pleasant to us and does a very good job.
