How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The hotel staff has been incredibly kind, available and supportive. The Hotel is small and quiet, it feels like home. The cleaning services were just impecable. The quality of the breakfast was also remarkable. Finally, the location is just a couple of minutes from the heart of Hania and its best shops.

The safe was a bit awkward!
It was very clean. Staff very nice and helpful. The bed ama imgly comfortable.. my husband wants to know were to buy the mattress?! The pillows great.. the sheets even.. all excellent Thanku!

View from the balcony was not inspiring.
Super clean and everything was new. Comfy bed. We had the breakfast one morning and it was EXCELLENT! The location was great, just outside the Old Town, and they provide a small parking area at the back.

The staff was very friendly, and helped us in any way we needed. Georgia gave us many good tips for restaurants and routes, and recommended us places we could visit. All of them were great. The breakfast in the hotel was delicious. Each day they served a typical greek dish in addition to eggs and bread. All in all it was fantastic. We would recommend this place and would come here again. Also the car/bike renting was very easy and quick.

We had an excellent stay at the Balance Hotel. It was perfectly located for old town walking as well as getting out of the city by car. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. a supersize bed. Georgia and her colleagues provided every help from recommendations on what to see and where to eat as well as parking and directions too. We so appreciate over 4 days they offered different breakfast treats to vary things up. We highly recommend a visit!

Very clean and comfortable rooms. The breakfast was very tasty. It’s also very close to the city Center! The staff were extremely helpful, the lady at the reception was very friendly and suggested some really nice places to visit around Chania and in Crete.

Extremely clean and luxurious. Incredible staff with very personalized and professional attention from the manager, Georgia. She answered our questions with knowledge and took care of every small need. Great location, walking distance to Old Town Chania, lovely breakfast, free parking. Incredible jacuzzi tub helped with sore muscles after a day of hiking.

Beautiful and spacious room with a comfortable bed. Close to the central area of Chania but very quiet. When I had trouble finding the parking area and — then — parking in it with my rental car, the very kind staff went above and beyond to help me. Absolutely wonderful stay and an incredible value for the money.

The bottles of water that are given free of charge were not refilled everyday in the fridge. We had to go and ask for this every time. The same as shampoo, shower gel, etc.
Clean and quiet room, excellent breakfast, the location is near old town less than 10 minute walking, the morning shift hotel staff, Georgia, is very nice. She recommended us with beautiful places to visit around.

We knew there wasn't much of a view from the balcony. So nothing to mention
The location suited us with an easy walk to the old town. Supermarket near by. Taxi to the door on arrival. A lift for when you return with sore feet. Lovely, helpful staff. Decor to our taste. Shower and bed was great. Double glazing very quiet. Local restaurant with a simple menu we went to for dinner. Larger lunch at the waterfront. Largish balcony w lounge and cloths line. Some may not be sure of the area but it was fantastic for 3 night stay.

A bar might have been nice but there are no shortage of options within 5 minutes.
Amazing breakfasts, changed daily with local dishes added to familiar options. Staff all friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean and cool just ten minutes walk from old town and five from the marina. Soundproof rooms meant no late night disturbances. Georgia and the team were amazing.
