Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsStayed here for the second year running. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Nothing is too difficult for Smaragda and her family and they will go out of their way for you. Will definitely stay here again.

FranceThe kitchen could be a little bit more equipped.
The pool area was really good and relaxing. The hotel is near to the center so you can walk everywhere ( big supermarket is just 5 min away), but it is not noisy at all. The staff is really helpful and always in a good mood.

the warm people of the staff. They were very kind and helpful for recommending some places. The location, for Malia is really good. a little walk to the beach, but outside the main party road, so not too much night noise.

United KingdomHad to pay extra for the aircon - was well worth it but wasn't aware of the additional cost before booking.
Lovely view from the balcony, all facilities were clean including the communal pool. Great location - close to the centre of Malia but still quiet at night. Staff very friendly and helpful.

I would first like to thank the family for an amazing stay. The sisters are the best ! Make you feel more than welcome and make you feel like your at home. The cleaner is lovely, Mom and dad lovely. Not a single fault I could say about this place. The room perfect wasn’t expecting it for the price should definitely consider updating the prices. Rooms are cleaned daily, anything you need just ask. For a solo traveler aged 20 I have never felt so safe in my life. Will most definitely be returning. Thank you guys for the stay. Would recommend to anyone.

SerbiaNo TV in our room, but we didn't mind at all.
We had a pleasant stay at Emerald Hotel. Central location (main street, bus stop in front), no traffic noise. Super nice and friendly staff (and guests). Clean facilities. Pool was nice addition, we spent many hours chilling by the pool or in the backyard. They let us stay almost all day after check-out, waiting for late flight. Thanks again!

United KingdomDespite being in the middle of Malia, it is an oasis of tranquility, with an idyllic setting overlooking the beautiful Cretan mountains. The hotel itself is extremely central, nestled right next to the beautiful Old Town, which has an abundance of traditional Greek Tavernas, some of which are the best we’ve experienced in all of Greece. WiFi is great. Cooking facilities are perfect for those who choose to cook, but given the temptation of the high calibre and reasonably priced local restaurants, cafes and tavernas, we opted to eat out more often than not. The hotel also has a pool which provided much needed relief from the blistering Cretan heat and which had a nice relaxed atmosphere. There is a beautiful garden area you can sunbathe in which over looks a small allotment / farm. Despite being extremely central, it feels like you’re in the countryside and is a very peaceful place to rest and chill. It is very much a family run hotel and all the family are lovely and very attentive to every need, making sure that we always had everything that we needed and always ensuring we knew all the best local beaches, attractions and places to eat. Nektaria and Smaragda ensured we had the best stay from start to finish, they even taught us a few words of Greek. One of the loveliest, friendliest, most relaxed places we’ve ever stayed. We’ll definitely be back and we’d advise anyone else coming to Malia to stay here. You won’t regret it. Efharisto.

GermanyThe only improvement that I can think of would be a private parking space, bit this is not a big issue because we could always find a spot nearby
Nektaria and Smaragda are the best hosts you may wish. They made us feel like at home, gave us wonderful advices and they managed our needs in a wonderful way. It's not a surprise that most of the guests that we have met during our stay have been returning for years and they feel part of the Argiraki family. Thanks for hosting us, we will be back!
