Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

United KingdomWe arrived, and didn’t know which villa was ours. I rang the owner, but no answer for 2 hours. He eventually messaged me to tell me we’d been moved due to a fault with the original villa we had booked. He said we could move to our correct villa the next day. Then we were asked if we could stay where we were, as the fault with the original villa would not be sorted out. He said he would arrange some financial compensation for the disruption, and the fact that we had lost a day of our holiday. I messaged the owner on Day 3 of our holiday, to ask about the compensation. I heard nothing. We came home, I messaged him again - still heard nothing. The contact with the owner is very poor indeed. The villa we stayed in was not, in any way, ‘luxury’! The bathroom was in a terrible state with limescale all over the shower-head, lights not working, and bare wires just left above the mirror. The shower was dirty with mould as well. The bedsheet had a blood-stain on it, from a previous occupier. We asked for a DVD player (as advertised) because there wasn’t one in the villa. A DVD player was left for us - but with no remote control or cable - plus, it didn’t work anyway! Quite honestly, when you pay €200 per night, you expect a bit more than this dirty, dated accommodation. The owner has taken over €1400 from us, but can’t even spend €20 on a new shower head, or €10 on a new bedsheet. The whole experience was very disappointing, and we would not recommend this accommodation to anybody.
We had great fun trying to work out what was ‘luxury’ about this villa!

ItalyPay attention! The owner has refused to issue the invoice I asked lots of times! Being a business stay, my company refuses to refund me the price because I cannot have any invoice. It is a great problem. Do not book this villa if you need the invoice. The owner is a tax evader and gets black payments. Be careful.
