Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThe rooms were a bit cramped and there wasn’t really anywhere to put your bags. The lockers were big enough for valuables, but not for a bag.
Great location, good size kitchen, good showers, friendly knowledgeable staff.

SwitzerlandBed not that comfy, bathrooms not that clean, but its a hostel what do you expect? Kind of weird dynamic between the volunteers and the hired staff whilst we were there, and lots of volunteers (who organise things) leaving, so we probably had less activities organised for us and encouraged to join in on during our stay.
Great location, so central in old town. Very sociable hostel - I'd imagine the most sociable in Dubrovnik, at least in the old town, they have a good communal outdoor area and did offer up some activities (mostly beaches) and nights out. Room was clean, well sound-proofed and safe with self-locking door and lockers. I'm going to say that for Dubrovnik, it was decent value for money if you're looking to meet people and party. As a whole Dubrovnik old town, and indeed Croatia, has got much more expensive than I remember it 5+ years ago. So if you want to see Dubrovnik old town and have nights out and chill at the beaches in the day then it's a great place to do so! If you can do without the latter two, then I imagine there are cheaper ways to See Dubrovnik, and conversely there are cheaper places to party hard and have beaches!

IrelandThe hostel is actually several different buildings so if like me you were in one a few minutes away it can be hard to meet people. You need to go to the main building with the terrace and kitchen to meet people. Terrace also closes really early and nowhere else to go to chill other than a beach nearby.
Great social hostel inside the old town. Hostel staff (Felipe, Louisa and Meadhbh) were amazing and brought us to all the best places for swimming/cliff jumping. Booked a 12 bed mixed dorm, ended up in a 4 bed female only so it actually worked out well.

AustriaNothing, only downside would be that there is no communal area open after 10pm (terrace and kitchen close due to noise, which is understandable).
This was such a good choice to stay, can defo recommend to others. I have not stayed in hostels much and I think Angelina set the bar pretty high for me now! The bed was comfy and the facilities clean. It was warm with 12 people in 1 room in july but with the airco it was doable (for me at least). Staff takes time to explain the rules and what is expected of you, as a result I feel people clean up after themselves. The terrace is really nice to meet people. There is also a whatsapp group and this is really clever, enabling people to quickly meet up for drinks, food or nights out. The staff also takes time to explain any tours etc if interested. I genuinely had a really good time here.

CanadaDidn't know there were multiple locations. Upon booking I thought it was the south side location, but prior to my arrival they sent me a message indicating I'm staying at a different location on the north west side. (it's 124 steps up, yes I counted!) They also notified me AFTER the Free Cancelation deadline which I think is a dirty move. Some travelers may have mobility issues and the Hostel should be more transparent about this on the hostel description!! This location is small and cramped Showers are really cramped This location I don't feel is worth the money. They also don't accept payment via credit card, it's Cash Only.. which is annoying because it's 2023.. and withdrawing cash from the ATM with a foreign bank card brings on way more fees to the traveler. After withdrawing cash I checked my bank statement and I incurred an additional $40 loss in my local currency just to withdraw cash to pay for my stay.
Staff are friendly and helpful beds were comfy provided towel air-con good wifi signal Great place to meet other travelers because they have a dedicated whatsapp group and host daily sunset activities to mingle travelers together.

AustraliaWhile some staff were excellent, some were rude and unhelpful. Advertised as an 8-bed dorm but was a 10-bed dorm.
Unreal location and excellent facilities. Great kitchen and outdoor space. A couple of staff members went above and beyond and made me feel at home (thank you!). Relaxed and happy hostel culture. Offered towels for beach which was a huge plus.

United KingdomKitchen closes at 10pm which is understandable but can be a little inconvenient. Storage in kitchen could be reorganised to make it a little less chaotic when multiple people are cooking. No privacy curtains on the beds which would be a simple but useful addition.
Fellow visitors are very social so its ideal for solo travellers, especially English speaking as most visitors are Australians and Americans on travelling tours of Europe. Close proximity to bars and clubs. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Daily social events to bring everyone together. Perfect location right in the centre of the old town. Easy access to 3/4 beaches within 15 minutes walk. Good clean facilities. Towels included. Beds are good even for someone who's 6ft 3. Nice terrace with sunbeds and benches to chill out.
