Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThis is a party planners hostel for boat trips. If that's not your thing stay somewhere else. Kitchen is basically a shelf. Location is incredibly difficult to find, no signage, I arrived late at night and was lost.
A social place with small social areas inside and out. The room was decent.

United StatesKitchen facilities are almost non-existent. Don't plan on cooking a meal here.
Outlanders is a very good hostel with congenial guests and a sparse volunteer staff. The price was exceptional, 11€ in early April. The layout is a little cramped and the only indoor common area shares a small room with the reception desk. The long narrow porch offers outdoor seating. There is an ample guest refrigerator but no way to cook. Dormitory is quiet, beds are comfortable and have accessible light and electricity. A Lidl supermarket is 7 minutes away on foot and the edge of the large Marjan Forest Park is about the same. Neighborhood street parking is quite easy but the municipal bus terminal is a substantial 23 minute walk. Cats are ever present (the dormitory door has a sign "Keep cats out during the night"), which some travelers will see as positive, others negative.

Czech RepublicThe only problematic thing I realized is that there are only 2 toilets/ bathrooms (one for women and one for men), so it is possible, that you will wait in line for using it.
I actually chosen this hostel, because from the reviews it seemed that it has really special vibes. And yes, it is a little bit "punk" style hostel. It is also a budget accomodation and it looks like that. However, the hostel has really, really unique spirit, so if you want to see something other than unificated tourist industry, definitely don't be afraid of somehow lower ratings on Booking. The hostel is located in pleasant and practical part of Split (few minutes from the old town, but not directly there, so you can feel "normal" Croatian everyday life). It has beautifuly arranged kind of terrace and a small but nice social room. The kitchen is equipped with all dishes, so you can prepare some meals by your own. Dorms are a little bit dark, but it is enough, if you want just to sleep there :) Hostel staff is really friendly and helpful! They offer some interesting city activities as well (as a historical city tour or a cooking workshop), which I have not experienced, but it sounds great. Another nice thing is quite late check-out time - fine both for early birds (you can wake up in the morning and enjoy the city a bit before you leave) and sleepers (you can rest without any stress). Oh, and the most important thing! There are cute cats living in the hostel. Lot of cats. However, keep calm: you almost don't see any hair nor other "stuff" related to the kitties, so you can just enjoy their company in common room and terrace.

PortugalThe location is a bit difficult to find if you use “maps.me” since the entrance is quite hidden and cannot be crossed from behind. And only one shower room so waiting is quite normal.
I love the very helpful staff, and very diverse guests, it seems like everyone soon bond into new families.

MaltaBathooms were very small with almost no privacy. As far as I know there was one bathroom for the girls and another one for men consisting of only 2 showers, 1 sink and 1 toilet in the same room Kitchen also very very small with stove of 2 and 1 sink. most people pretty much eat at same time so we had to wait for each other to finish cooking. I enjoyed my stay so much that I extended my stay for another night
I never felt so much at home in a Hostel. Lovely environment with good structured rules. They managed to somehow make everyone feel so at home and everyone enjoyed staying longer in the hostel to chat, lough, play games or watch TV together. Never experienced this this much in a hostel. Would definitly book this hostel again if im in the area. Location is not that far from canter. Lovely patio to sit and chill.

SlovakiaSmall ladies bathroom, only for one person. A bit shaky beds. First night I slept in 4-bed room, I missed there window blinds and as well during the night it was a bit noisy, as one person was making long phone call right behind the window. I prolonged my stay for the second night, as my plans changed, I moved to 10-bed room and actually I slept better here :) windows had here already blinds and it was more quiet that night.
Close to the city center. Nice and helpful staff, who helped me to plan my trip around Split and showed all the places on the map, as I did not really check it before :) Big space for personal stuff with a lock and electric plugs next to each bed.

IrelandNothing I could complain about!
Great place for people on a budget and for solo travellers who want to meet new people as all people were very friendly, however not pushy so it is also suitable to introverts! The staff was the friendliest and most helpful of any place I have been to so far! All basic amenities are met, with no luxury, however that is why this place is good value for money. It has a really cool hippie vibe as advertised on booking. The location is excellent, very near the city centre and close to beaches as well. It is also near a hilltop of the city of Split (Marjan) so there are plenty of beautiful places to take walks around, apart from the city centre. The hostel also has cute cats which roam peacefully (but are not allowed to stay in the bedrooms at night). I can highly recommend for people on a budget, solo travellers and for anyone looking for a relaxed atmosphere where it easy to meet new people. However, despite the hippie atmosphere, the staff are making sure that people are able to get a good sleep and that there are no disturbances at any time of the day.

IrelandThere is nothing I can really suggest to be improved. The place is a hostel with a hippie vibe, so there certainly isn't any luxury, which is anyway not what any of the guests were looking for. All amenities are met with nothing basic lacking, I can say better than some other regular hostels I have been to before.
I enjoyed the stay at the hostel throughout. The location is excellent, just a short walk right to city centre and near several beaches. All necessary amenities are closeby as well. It was the most relaxed place I have stayed at so far, however the staff still made sure that there were no issues with noise or any disturbance. I managed to get a really good sleep each time and the beds were comfortable. The receptionists are one of the friendliest and most helpful staff! I have found the other guests to be very friendly as well, everyone was respectful and was open for a conversation (but nobody was pushy so it is also a good place for introverts), so this place is ideal for any solo travelers as well and for people on a budget. All amenities necessary for a hostel were there, everything was clear and practical. And for any catpeople out there, there are hostel cats which are adorable!
