The terrace view is much to be desired. Though not a major issue, we had to give a specific time we would be eating breakfast. Most inns give you a range so you aren’t tied down while on holiday. We stayed other places who had an equally small dining area and we did not have to set a time.

Our Victorian style room was lovely with very comfortable beds.

We were disappointed not to have any kind of view from our room in contrast to the stunning river and city scape that most rooms enjoy. Our windows were very small and high so we couldn’t even look out onto the steep car park the front. In addition we were surprised to be placed in a triple room when we had booked a double/ twin. There were no other rooms to swap to sadly.

The decor was very tired and old fashioned - it could do with a contemporary refresh. The details focused on environmental sustainability but this was not in evidence in the hotel.

Gabriel Guesthouse location is very good, easy walking access to the town centre though the guesthouse is on a hill so some may want to consider that. Very friendly staff. Excellent tasty breakfast.

As our room was next to the front desk, it wasn’t quiet during business hours, which can’t be helped. Our window opened to the designated smoking patio, making it necessary to close the window frequently. Perhaps management might consider an area away from any windows.

They needed a mirror close to a plug to dry hair. It’s a little small/cramped.

The reason we booked this guesthouse was the proximity to the train station, it suited us and our travel plans perfectly. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We arrived early and wanted to ask whether we could drop our bag. Instead we were informed that the cleaning of the room was about to be done and we could check in already, great service! The room was spacious for 2 of us for just one night but the best part was the breakfast. We ordered Irish breakfast and it was a fresh take on it with delicious pesto, not just tasty but also very easy on the eye. We enjoyed our stay and can recommend it.
