Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe were only just in time for dinner, which is a single menu, single setting per day. We were very glad we made it.
Beautiful property in a fabulous location. Inventive, tasty dinner and generous breakfast served with care by the young Spanish couple. Quirky, comfortable rooms and beautiful gardens. Sadly our trip was cut short, but with a very generous host, we can't wait to rebook. Highly recommended

IrelandWhile we loved the peaceful, calm ambience,We would have preferred a little more background music in the dining areas, as it was difficult to converse. We would also have liked a little more choice in our dinner menu, perhaps two of each course that could have been ordered that morning, similar to the breakfast order overnight,
Lovely welcome from Mark ,the host, good tour of the lay out and facilities. Breakfast was good with nice choice. Beautiful extensive gardens to explore. We didnt get to use the pool etc, but looked lovely.

IrelandSome of the rooms were a little dusty.
Kilmokea Country House is set in a beautiful, extremely tranquil location. This gorgeous house is a joy to inhabit. The grandeur is now slightly faded but if anything this adds to the appeal. They have the most beautiful gardens (the children loved exploring these) where they also grow some of their own produce. The Staff are very friendly and help maintain the relaxing charm. We had dinner on the first night which was absolutely delicious with a great wine list. There is a set menu but were flexible enough to cater to a non-meat eater and a fussy child. The two other children were happy to eat the main menu and the youngest tried duck for the first time. Breakfast is a long leisurely affair, where nothing is too much trouble and portions are large and refills are plentiful. We brought our dog along and they couldn't have been more accommodating in this regard. There was a large field close to the gardens where we could walk him off the lead. We all loved the pool. It was such a treat to have it to ourselves for the hour. The beds were very comfortable and we had a wonderfully peaceful sleep only to be disturbed by the local cockerel. Unfortunately, due to the wet weather, we didn't get to use the tennis court but we will next time. If you are looking for a break from everything and want a great location to explore the historic sights of the Hook Peninsula then Kilmokea is a perfect base. I wish we had been able to stay for longer.

IrelandThe layout of our room. Whilst the main part of the bedroom was very spacious and nicely laid out, the bath tub and shower were in an doorless alcove, only separated from the room by a curtain.
The house is full of charm and the gardens are fabulous. Plenty of space for walks and a field for our dogs to play in. The indoor swimming pool was a real bonus! Lovely freshly cooked breakfast also.

IrelandIt might be me or COVID restrictions, but guess interactions between other guests and staff was minimal. We might have to get used to that way of life 🤔
The location and house are lovely. Breakfast excellent. Everything freshly cooked. Set me up for a day’s adventure around the hook.

IrelandThe fact that the listing doesn't mention its a mobile phone black area or that the wifi is only available when sitting near the router, and that there are no televisions is pretty poor. I can only imagine the disappointment of arriving with some kids and discovering this fact. Hugely inconvenient to anyone living in the 21st century. Also... maybe I'm nitpicking, but the beds had sheets and an eiderdown, which wasn't pleasant. We actually drove to a tesco superstore and bought a duvet.
The grounds and gardens were beautiful and since we could bring our dog with us it made for lovely walks. Very relaxed atmosphere, and great to have the pool and jacuzzi to myself thanks to covid! Food was good, albeit extortionate. The 'Honesty Bar' was quirky (help yourself and write down what you had), but since only 3 people could occupy the space it wasn't too appealing.

IrelandThe rooms were not the cleanest. I don't know, maybe I have too high a standard, but the toilet was not cleaned. There is also no wifi or phone signal in the cherry room, so be prepared for this. Our room was also a bit cramped and right on the public path so we felt quite overlooked. Also, (not the hotel's fault) guests staying in the room above us made a lot of noise on the last morning of our stay. We were woken at 6.30 by big bangs and thuds. This continued until 11am when we checked out. The food offerings for dinner were also over priced for what we got. I don't know, the food wasn't terrible, just a little unimaginative. Anyway, I think we came to the conclusion that other people seem to really enjoy staying here, and perhaps it just wasn't to our taste.
The staff are really lovely friendly and welcoming which makes it hard to give a bad review. It was also a real treat to have to heated indoor pool to yourself. The gardens are very nice to wonder around. And the breakfast was very good.
