The place lacked character. We thought we were staying in a character filled old estate and although it was old, it had been modernised so much it lacked warmth and character. The restaurant was very stark and sterile.

Food was amazing. The gardens were lovely to walk around. Room had everything we needed.

From the moment of arrival when we were greeted by the most wonderful welcoming ,friendly staff and offered a glass of bubbly I knew this was going to be amazing and i was right ! Fabulous room , spotlessly clean, relaxed atmosphere throughout the estate, beautiful food served by happy helpful staff and a sauna in the woods where we had a dip in the lake followed by a spin in a golf buggy to the lake house for treatments that were serenity itself ! Walking through the woods to the sky garden was another magical experience.

The garden room I occupied was mostly comfortable but had a light outside the rear door that I discovered quite late that I couldn't turn off. It was strange to be in a rural location with a bright light outside all night.

Friendly welcome and very nicely presented public areas. I was told about interesting facilitates, such as a gym and yoga room but I didn't get a chance to use them. Breakfast was good as was dinner.

Food and drink were a bit expensive particularly for the portion size at lunch and dinner. From personal perspective I booked a massage but was male therapist which I only realised when we arrived for treatment, was too uncomfortable to get the massage again this is more personal choice but I think it would be good if it stated this when I called to book. Still paid for treatment as was my own choice not to go ahead.

A really minor comment related to the dinner. Sometime service was a bit slow, we waited for a side dish for our main and had to remind staff after a while. Otherwise everyone was very attentive, polite and not annoying at all.

It was a full on relaxation experience, the room was spacious featuring a really comfortable super king mattress, a bathroom with top quality bathroom fixtures. We couldn't get enough with relaxing in the bathtub next to the window overlooking beautiful scenery. The hotel area is huge, there are many kilometers of walking trails, many secluded places, a garden, a meadow. Restaurant food and wine quality is exceptional, a bit pricey but not over the top. Breakfast options sufficed and the eggs Benedict were great. Our stay wouldn't be complete without visiting an absolutely gorgeous private sauna on the lake. Definitely a must visit place!

Not much but probably a little understaffed and the bar area could be a little more conducive to groups as distinct from couples. The old sash windows were a bit draughty but not a big issue as heating on most of the time.

The food was very good, the room were lovely and the walks around the 160 acres were a great getaway from life. Lots of nice towns to visit nearby, Glandore and Union Hall, with good restaurants.

GORGEOUS sauna pod, yoga pod & relaxation pod beside the lake. Located near enough to Skibbereen, Lough Hyne & Ballydehob for day trips.
