How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The location within the town & also in the area. Loads to see & do locally. Michelle went above & beyond to help us out with a late night key issue, which we greatly appreciated. Thank you so much

It was so comfy and suited all our needs, also close to places we wanted to visit. Michelle had left milk,bread, butter and jams,and teabags and was a nice touch as we could have a cuppa while we got our bearings. Close to shops and little cafe. It was also pet friendly so was great for mams dog. We would stay again soon.

Cosy place and easy check-in. Good communication. Lovely gesture from the host to keep bread, butter and milk for guests on arrival. Perfect for our 2-night stay.

Everything was spot on. Great location in the town so clean and absolutely everything in a holiday home you, could want all you would need to bring with you is your toothbrush! Michelle was extremely attentive and a lovely host

Absolutely nothing
Absolutely everything. Seamless check in and out. Lovely touches like brown bread milk butter water. Also shampoo conditioner shower gel. Could not fault this property.

Double bed a bit small as we are used to king-size bed but otherwise bedrooms had lots of storage space & spotlessly clean.
Holiday home was very well equipped it was like a home from home. Host left bread butter milk etc which was a really nice touch. Lots of towels for bathroom & glasses plates etc in kitchen. Property was spotlessly clean bright & airy with a television with many channels. Would definitely stay again when in the area to visit family.

🤣🤣 a spatula to turn the fried eggs would have been useful - hardly an issue but had to fill this box with something

It was a convenient location to walk into the town Centre and also to Tour the surrounding countryside. The owner had the kitchen well stocked with supplies for Breakfast.

Kitchen quite small, with not much tableware for a family of four. No dishwasher. We had to do some cleaning when we arrived, in the kitchen and toilet. We were told that the check-out time would have to be 9:30 only after booking. If we knew that previously, probably wouldn't have booked.
Location in the centre of the town, close to everything, with a very nice park to walk. Beds were comfortable, a nice vacation apartment. Good to have a private place to park the car.

Breakfast was very basic, only milk and bread were provided. Beds are a bit narrow.
Very nice little cottage perfect for 4 people, located just a short walk from the town centre and supermarkets. Very nicely furnished and decorated, it had everything we needed for our 2-night stay. Michelle was very accommodating and responded very quickly. We had a lovely stay at Mayfield House.

It was great that the hosts had left milk and bread. Also very helpful for guests who have flown over there was soaps, shampoos, washing powder etc. It was also very easy to get and stay in touch with the host if we had any questions
