How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Sanctuary Lodge is an idyllic location very close to the beach and a few kilometres from BallyCotton spotlessly clean all mod cons perfect place to stay for a break by the sea . Mary was a wonderful host .

Beautiful little house near beach! Everything is new. Fully equipped. Spacious Living room with open kitchen. Comfortable beds. Host is very nice and helpful :) We would stay there again.

We could not find fault with this property. It was so clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated and Mary is the perfect host. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

Nothing it couldn't have been better.
Mary the owner was the essence of customer care, so welcoming and friendly. The Santuary is truly an amazing place. Loved every minute of the stay.

The only negative is the Wi-Fi was poor
This was a great property, the rooms were very comfortable, it was a great find. The decor was lovely with a spacious common area, comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Mary left welcoming essentials and a great find to have the Nespresso and airfryer.

The photos do not do the house justice, I.e. the accommodation is better than depicted.
The standard of accommodation is excellent. The hosts, Mary and John, were very approachable, organised, accommodating, and welcoming. The house is very well equipped, tastefully designed with lovely personal touches, including a welcome pack. The house is also close to the beach and east cork's treasurers such as Shanagarry, Ballycotton, Castlemartyr, Ballymaloe, Garrvoe etc. I would highly recommend Sanctuary Lodge.

Nothing. Everything was absolutely perfect. Can't wait to visit again soon!
The lodge is absolutely perfect for a couple, small family, or even a larger family. The decor is beautiful, it was very clean and fresh. Well presented throughout and excellent quality amenities within. The location is excellent, picturesque views and set in a very friendly village. Would recommend a meal and a drink down in Ballycotton just 3 km away. Also, this location is a perfect base for anyone wishing to explore Cork, and especially and avid sea anglers. Perfect for fishing Bass and Mackeral. We felt like we were the only people in the world and that's just what we wanted from our trip. Travelling overseas with a 5 month old baby was initially daunting, but the owner at the lodge was perfect with her communication and information and provided a travel cot suitable for our daughter and she had a very pleasant sleep and adapted very well to her temporary new surroundings. Our host left us fresh eggs, bread, milk, water and preserves. There was toiletries in the bathrooms, tea, coffee and sugar in the kitchen. And a dishwasher which would make life easier for a larger family staying. The beds were so comfortable, and excellent quality makes all the difference. We was well rested. We couldn't make use of the garden due to the heavy rainfall, but this was very well maintained and a BBQ in situ should you require it. Perfect for those summer evenings. The only negative we had was we had to come home! A personal and particularly beautiful moment of the trip was one morning when we had a butterfly flying around by the patio door and we filmed our baby attempting to hold it! The little fond moments like that we will remember forever. We can't wait to visit the Lodge again xx

Mary the host was amazing! So many lovely additional touches. She went above and beyond for us! I cannot recommend this place enough. It really is a gem! so beautiful and modern inside. Quiet and peaceful too! Can’t wait for our next stay

The house is bautyful and very comfortable, the owner provided many Extras, helped with all requests and gave us great Tips on what to do in the Arena that made our stay so much more enjoyable, great place, great price and extremly lovely host.

We had stayed in Garryvoe/Ballycotton some years back and really enjoyed the location. Santuary Logde provided everything we needed for a little getaway just after Christmas. The Location near the beach stretched our legs and we soon forgot about what was on the Telly next. If the hustle and bustle of Christmas is not for you,we would highly recommend a comforting stay..(actually any time of the year)
