Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandSlightly patchy wifi in my dorm room.
Great place to stay, I was sad to leave. Awesome facilities, nice kitchen and social dinning area. Lovely reading room with a fire and dogs for company. I felt very at home. Great location too. Nice and clean, comfortable beds with curtains for privacy. It was a lovely hostel, I would 100% recommend to anyone visiting the beautiful Killarny.

United Arab EmiratesThe location of the kitchen maybe because sometimes the smell from cooking goes to the rooms.
The bed is very comfortable and you have privacy because of curtains and individual sockets. The location is good and I was able to park at the cathedral just 2 mins away. There’s also plenty of places to eat and drinks just few mins walk away. Breakfast is good too.

United StatesOne of the 2 refrigerators was quite smelly. More attention to labeling and dating of guests foods should be implemented. Routine cleaning of this needed but I was only here 3 nights so it may have been an incidental exception.
I stayed in a 5 female dorm with ensuite bathroom. Bed was very comfortable with privacy curtain, light, shelf and outlet. Very eco-friendly hostel with plenty of relaxing areas to sit alone or mingle with other travelers. Great vibes throughout- for those of all ages and nationalities and there are inspirational quotes and decor everywhere. A lovely natural garden area is outside in back of the hostel with various places to sit. A chicken coup in the rear of garden yields fresh eggs when available. Breakfasts were sufficient. Coffee shop is attached to front of hostel with outdoor covered seating area on street. There are 3 lovely wire haired dachshunds that live on premises and are very sweet and adorable. They are well loved and part of the family. So cute. Cozy fireplace in sitting room. Dining room and the kitchen areas are very spacious. Plenty of room to cook meals and store your foods should you choose to. I loved this hostel.

IrelandThe shower was a bit clogged so that eventually you ended up ankle-deep in (dirty) water :-/... A wee stool or something in the shower would also help put things down rather than having to place them on the floor or trying to hang up everything.
It's always great to return to the Black Sheep Hostel - to me, it has the comfiest hostel beds in the whole world. Firm wooden beds with comfy matresses, a nice curtain for privacy (and leaving you without guilt of keeping everyone awake if you needed light!), a cozy and warm duvet and two (!!!) cushions - this upgrade now felt like a deluxe version of a hostel ;-) You always meet nice people, the breakfast is pleasant, the details around the hostel are cute, and the living room is a nice and quiet space to retreat if all is too loud, offering books and an open fireplace. Their coffee in the shop is very tasty.

IrelandI didn't like that I stayed there only two nights! But that's because of how lovely of an experience it was. Free eggs available from their own chickens in the morning. Free pasta, very good food poolicies for the kitchen, and incredibly friendly staff. The eclectic nature of the styles makes it so that everyone fits in. Amazing reading room with books available, lovely garden, and four well behaved doggos complete the picture. Free books. I cannot overstate how much I loved the place. I admire the concept of the tables with tokens from previous guests from all over the world. When I go back to Killarney, they will be the first people I check with. They offer advice, bikes for rent, loads of stuff I didn't even avail of, the baseline was enough, and the breakfast included definitely does the job! I even liked the music choices for the lunch room.
Everyone, and I mean everyone is at home in the Black Sheep Hostel. I cannot recommend this hostel enough, and went because an acquaintance raved about it years prior. Lovely coffee in the bar, exceptional service, everyoen was in a good mood, the vibes were immaculate.

United StatesThe only thing that I would call out is the negative side of the spacious bunks, because of this there is a lot of space between top and bottom and I've often found myself woken up because the person in the top one would turn on the light which was very bright and it would light up my entire bunk. Also, you are about a 10 minute walk from the city center, which doesn't seem like much but then you need to consider how small the city center actually is.
This has been one of the best hostels I have probably been on, the beds are really big, spacious and very comfortable. The rooms have large underbed storage to keep all your belongings. Lots of shared spaces allow for interaction with other guests and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need. The late/self checking process was very good. They offer a laundry service for a very decent price and they take care of everything. Breakfast is included except for the good coffee, if you want filtered coffee they you are fine. The board had lots of recommendations of things to do. Overall a great experience and would definitely return.

IrelandThe room was a bit cold. Not freezing either, but the radiator was lukewarm only.
Very comfortable bed, great to have the curtain, the little shelf with the light and the plugs close by. The secure storage space under the bed is excellent too. The common areas were clean and comfortable and the place has spirit.

CanadaI have nothing bad to say. This hostel is well-located, well-equipped, and reasonably priced.
This has to be one of the most beautiful hostels I've ever seen. The common room feels like a prohibition-era speakeasy, and the dining area is equally charming. Oh, and they have their own chicken coop. I was also pleasantly surprised that the bunk beds have a curtain, which is nice when you feel like taking a nap or reading privately before bed. The staff are so helpful and kind. The Black Sheep Hostel is a must for any solo travelers passing through Killarney.

United KingdomMy food, which was not on the "free to use" shelf, still got used by other guests. Fortunately, I still had enough left for my needs.
There is an open fire and a relaxed atmosphere in the lounge. The cooking facilities are good; I prefer to cook my food than be forced to eat out.

GermanyIt's absolutely beautiful and cozy. You can sit in a nice living room by the fire and they have a huge back yard with chickens. It's close to the city center and the bus station where bus coaches will drop you off. You can walk to Ross Castle in 40 minutes and into the Nationalpark. The rooms are big and you have privacy with curtains. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the two dogs are absolutely adorable. The showers and bathrooms are clean. Best hostel I ever stayed at.

Germany- you have to book fast because the available rooms disappear sooo quickly! :D
- great atmosphere in the hostel (feels like home full of friends, everyone is so kind and helpful to each other) - there is breakfast included in the price - rooms are very spacious with very comfortable beds, I love the "comfy" ladder that leads me to the upper bunk bed - very solid construction of bunk beds, I wasn't stressed that it would collapse when I went up to my bed (at other hostels it sometimes creates weird noises or the bed is crazily moving) - The hostel has a great living room area with a small library, a great dining room with a lot of comfortable seats around, a spacious kitchen - The people who work there are the coolest people ever, will always answer your questions and give you the best recommendations - that place is SO CLEAN!
