Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesOnly a small complain, the bed is comfortable but the size is a tad on the small side for me and my missus. Perhaps with the full plush comforters and pillows we ran out of room. You may want to look for a Queen size bed if you want more room. We will do that next time we book.
Friendly staff. Christian welcomed us and helped us with our bags when moved in to our room. Well appointed room. We stayed in the Carriage Room, more modern amenities. Grounds were beautifully kept and we were blessed with great weather. Dinner experience in the Hermione Restaurant at the Clubhouse was great. The steak we ordered arrived as ordered. At the Castle Bar, had really enjoyable experience with Filip and Glen the two very entertaining and skillful bartenders that was there when we had our evening drinks. Breakfast the next morning was A-La-Carte with multiple choices. Portions were just right for us and my choice of Egg Benedict was done just right. Check out was fast and we all got the experience of staying at a Castle in Ireland!

United StatesEverything was great.
We loved Christian who greeted us when we arrived! He was so lovely and even took some great photos of us in front of the castle. We also loved the restaurant and the bar. It was absolutely stunning. We also loved our evenings in the bar area by the fireplace and the horse riding experience.

IrelandThe tap in the bathroom had an antique style with matched the decor but was difficult to turn on and off. One other little complaint is that we had booked horse riding through the castle but wasn’t told it was a 35 min drive away beforehand. They should have told us at check in. They said it when we asked for directions the day of, and then were 30 min late. Luckily they still took us.
We stayed in the carriage rooms and they were lovely, comfortable, updated. The spa was particularly nice with a relaxation room, lovely services and a sauna, warm pool, cold dousing shower and steam room. The dinner was lovely Hermione Restaurant, we went back both nights! Breakfast was very good in the castle 1108 restaurant. They accommodated my gluten and dairy free issues wonderfully.

IrelandA pity that the elegant, bright drawing room on the first floor wasn’t available during my stay.
Beautiful historic venue. Comfortable rooms. Lovely staff who knew my name and were most helpful. Dinner in 1180 restaurant was delicious but eating less formally in Hermiones restaurant was also nice. A friendly atmosphere in the lounge each night where guests chatted together.

IrelandEverything was so nice tbh .,but just a few of my thoughts - some light bites should be available in the bar area of the castle . When we arrived we were a little peckish and went for a cuppa in the bar ( as I saw other quests too ) as with ourselves nearly all asked for a scone or some light bites to eat but we were told food was only served in golf club house . Club house was very busy at that time and we would have had to wait 1/2 hr for a table . - maybe a little corner shop where some forgotten items could be bought eg toothpaste , some treats etc . ( or a vending machine) as you know there is nothing around in the vicinity outside the Castle to buy or get anything -Also.a little library collection where a book could be borrowed . Only saw some books on display the morning of our breakfast but waitress said they were the owners and only on display . - better lighting esp at the side of the castle where it can be viewed from at night when dining in the golf club . I was looking forward to seeing the castle all lit up at night but that was disappointing. Plus one of the wall spotlights was flickering ready to blow I'm sure . - albeit the hotel was really spotless well done to the cleaning team ,there were 2 large cobwebs hanging from the ceiling where we had breakfast in main dining area . Sorry they were in my line of vision as I was admiring the overall aesthetics of the building . ( a small oversight in a really very well maintained building )
First time staying in a castle , absoloutly beautiful . Love the original staircases and walls . Staff were very friendly albeit the receptionist on our arrival sent us outside to go to our room ( R 202) when in fact it was upstairs in the castle itself . We met the Congière on the grounds and he brought us up to our room . Such a pleasant professional gentleman. The grounds of the hotel are beautifully maintained and vast . Room.was lovely , bed so comfy . Bathroom was spacious and showher had great water pressure . Thank you

United StatesOur bathroom was showing some wear for the price we paid. The key broke in the lock and we were locked out for a couple hours. Staff was super helpful. Many people worked on problem. They got the job done. I was surprised that they did not offer us a discount or even comp the room or our dinner. They offered a free drink in the bar, and bartender was very friendly, but I would have expected more. In the end nice stay.
This is a beautiful property. A perfect place for a wedding. Beautiful grounds.

IrelandI really enjoyed my massage at the day spa and the atmosphere there is lovely but I probably wouldn't pay for the thermal suite on it's own (it's included in a spa treatment) as there isn't a massive amount there (hydrotherapy/jacuzzi, small sauna and stream room and two showers) and when there are a few people there it can get quite loud. There were guys in there playing videos and taking photos on mobile phones while we were in the sauna which was not relaxing. The room was also a little bit too warm for my partner so he struggled to sleep but he was able to open a window in the night to fix this problem.
The castle is absolutely stunning and it feels very welcoming and homely with a big open fire. You can sit around the ground floor of the castle, have drinks (there is a bar with cocktails) and play board games. The fine dining was amazing and atmospheric in the castle. they catered to my very specific dietary requirements as I am vegan and gluten free. The vegan and gluten free foods were both delicious. We also had e meal at Hermione's was really superb, I got a very tasty vegan/GF risotto there. We stayed in the carriage rooms. It was comfortable with a nice bed, a lovely range of herbal teas and coffees and an excellent shower. The room is on the small side but it has everything you need. I really enjoyed my massage at the day spa and the therapists working there were friendly.

United StatesI would have loved to have seen the property in the spring with all the gardens in bloom. however this wasn't their fault was we decided to travel in February.
The setting for our castle stay at Kilkea couldn't have been better. Approaching the property, we were impressed with the landscaped entry road revealing the beautiful view of the castle itself. Staff was wonderful and we were made to feel very special.
