How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The location was perfect. 5 minutes walk to birr town. The breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and had everything you needed.

We had no issues
Staff so welcoming and helpful, restaurant really nice "tapas: breaded garlic mushrooms, chips, steak.sambo onion ring..just perfect, wine and beer, cocktails available too.thank you rooms cosy, warm..tea and coffee and kettle in the room. A few minutes walk from arts centre we were attending 80s icon show there..so it was perfect 🥰

Bedrooms were very cold, very low heat at night so I used a second duvet.- No heat came on in the morning - reception phone did not answer so I had to go downstairs and ask for the heat to be put on. The owner said the heat was on a timer but there must have been a problem. It was sorted.
Lovely house, beautifully furnished. Excellent breakfast, we also had dinner which has a Tapas menu - food and service superb.

When I arrived there was no one to let me in. I stood out there waiting and trying to call the phone number. Only for a couple walking along telling me to go to the nearby restaurant as it is connected to the property. It was well over 30 minutes before I got in.
The place was clean and comfortable. Had to leave before breakfast was available so can't comment on that.

Booking.com had put Townsend house up as available for our dates when I booked it on the 1st November. When we arrived at the guesthouse there was no room available for that particular night and there hadn't been for weeks. The owner couldn't understand how I was able to book it in the first place. Martin was exceptionally helpful as all other hotels and guesthouses were booked out as it was a Saturday night. He somehow found us an Air BnB to stay in just 2km away. Martin was exceptionally helpful and went out of his way to find us a place to stay. This is the second time I have arrived at accommodation I booked through booking.com where there has been no room available and I have been relocated. The first time I was on my own, but this time I was with my husband and 2 children at 8pm and is was a worry and significant inconvenience that Booking.com. had let us down.
We would have loved to have stayed here if there had been a room available as I understood there was from my booking.com email and app. Restaurant seemed very nice.

Unfortunately, the TV didn't work in our room, only radio channels were shown.
Wonderful location and a wonderful place to stay. The Breakfast is excellent and Martin and the team are just great and will help with everything. We Will certainly be Back!

The room was lovely and comfortable. Their restaurant "Tapas" was incredible. I have eaten in some of the best restaurants all over the world. The food at Tapas is some of the best I've ever had and the desserts were 5 star!

No Wi-Fi in bedrooms and bad connection. Beautiful period property so walls are thin and you can hear conversations from neighbouring bed rooms. In house Tapas restaurant €9 per dish so can be pricey if on a budget though filling anyway and delicious. Great cocktails too.
Warm shower, comfy/homely place to stay, clean rooms. Nice tapas restaurant- attentive servers.Quality ingredients for breakfast. Location great - could easily walk into the Main Street and to eateries and to Birr castle in 10mins.

Wifi worked on main floor but not in my room.
Very pleasant staff, Excellent breakfast. A very pleasant Georgian style building which is close to Birr Castle and many coffee shops in Birr and a short taxi ride from Leap Castle.
