Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandI received a message that I was getting an upgrade a day before I arrived at the booked place which was Troysgate. The apprent upgrade was at Waterfront townhouse which we could not find as it was marked with a different name, luckily there was a member of staff waiting who directed us to the accommodation. We arrived at it and the place was at the center of the town though it was comfortable. I live in a city and I was not at all prepared for what I experienced ,it was the roudiest night of my life with hen and stag parties going on till 4am. We couldn't sleep at all and when we were up and tried to boil water for coffee the kettle would not work. There was no WiFi at the place and to top it off we couldn't shower as the shower controls did not work and the water would not drain away and was about to flood the shower tray, nor did the toilet flush. We went out to get coffee only to come back to a smelly bedroom due to waste water problem. I never requested an upgrade which was essentially a downgrade, staying there was at all not worth it as it spoilt my special weekend. I am not prepared to pay for this booking at all as it was a total disaster !!!
On first impression the room looked beautiful but the stay was a disaster. The lady that showed us around was very friendly and helpful. I feel the initial booking at Troygate was costing us €119 whereas the so said upgrade was advertised for about €70 as we noted on trying to find it on bookings.com. Why should I pay for the wrong accommodation as well as what I didn't book for when it was not even worth it and, it was organised a day before arrival when I could not have cancelled without paying the full price from the 13th September ?

IrelandI booked my accommodation with more than a month in advance. Less than 24 hours prior to our arrival I received an SMS saying that they had to transfer my stay to an alternative premises. I found it quite suspicious that they sent me an SMS rather than a message through booking, the combination of the SMS and the fact that they gave such short notice would indicate that I would not have the option to cancel my stay, or if I did I would have to pay anyway. Let's move on. I booked a place for 129 euro, with parking facilities (that was very important to us as we were driving and we had a lot of luggage). The alternative accommodation we received was 99 euro and did not have parking facilities. We were told to park the car somewhere nearby (a 5-minute walk which can be a nuisance when you are carrying your suitcases) and we had to pay 5 euros a day. I am not going mad about the 5 euros per se, but about the attitude of the hotel which should at least have given us the total of 35 euros difference back, and didn't. When we arrived in our new accommodation, which we were told is owned by the same company, we were shocked. The accommodation, which we were told in the message was called "the Waterfront" but had a sign outside saying "Castle Inn Guest Rooms", had no staff working there, the lady who works in the café below the "hotel" apparently helps by handing the keys to visitors (she was very nice by the way), we got to our room and to our surprise they were still getting it ready for us. The room was boiling and extremely noisy. The window need maintenance as it felt as if we were in the middle of the road. Between the heat and the noise it was impossible to sleep.
