Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyAs the building is old, there are very few sockets. The garden was unfortunately closed. There is no fridge in the room or any opportunity to use one in the hotel. The hotel is old and some parts are dilapidating.
Hotel was very cozy, the room was big and nicely decorated. The bed was amazing. Staff was very helpful and our room was cleaned twice a day. The street is quite but the hotel is very close to the city center.

United StatesThe hotel is more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel and so there weren't the facilities, such as a lobby or restaurant, that most people are used to. Heads up to people (as I've seen complaints about this) - you need to turn your room key in at the desk each time you leave and ring the bell to enter. This did not bother us at all as we never had to wait to be let in and were always greeted warmly upon return.
The whole atmosphere was welcoming. The bed was comfy, the place is immaculate, there was absolutely no noise, and there were special, personal touches that you would not find in a chain hotel.

The hotel was centrally located to everything in Reykjavik and near two major bus depots/stops. The rooms were clean and fresh, and the staff was extremely friendly. In fact, they must employ some of those Icelandic elves we were told about, because how could only two people run the place to such a high degree 24/7. Finally, they offer a nice European-style breakfast each day, which really helped get the day going and fuel us for our adventures. We highly recommend. P.S. don’t mention the black sand beaches! :-)

Our stay at the hotel Phoenix was very pleasant and we can truly recommend it. The owners are very very helpful and it was nice to have a little chat with them whenever we got back to the hotel. The breakfast is rich and visually appealing. The decoration of the entire hotel and also of the room make you feel at home. Everything is very clean and well maintained. We had a room towards the street but during nighttime it wasn‘t noisy. We found it extraordinarily nice that there is a roomservice before sleepingtime with a little chocolate.

United KingdomThe Phoenix Hotel is a charming surprise in Reykjavik. It is close to the sights of the city centre, and offers very quiet rooms that are tastefully decorated. The included breakfasts are superbly done. The owners are extremely friendly hosts who took great care of us and provided lots of information about the sites of Reykjavik. This was the perfect place to stay while in Reykjavik!

GreenlandYou'll be dependent on the staff to get in and out of the hotel. The best part of a hotel stay to me (and probably many others) is the buffet breakfast, which they don't provide. They generally offer little flexibility regarding dietary restrictions or preferences. Had I known how the breakfast was, I would have booked a different place instead. With the price and the reviews, I expected the property to be the same level as other hotels in the same area, but unfortunately my expectations weren't met.
The rooms were very clean and the interior design was nice. Friendly staff.

United StatesDONT STAY HERE NO MATTER WHAT. Spoke to the police as well. the manager is the worst ever. He was very rude and sarcastic all the time. He barged into our room and threatened us because we were 5 mins late for check out. He almost came to hit my lady. He refused to leave the room. Horrible horrible manager. Please don't stay here as you would need to leave keys with them whenever you go out. Unprofessional to the core and doesn't know how to treat tourists. There are plenty of better hotels. Skip this!
Only the location is decent to the main downtown places.

GermanyVery small shower cabin, very soft bed, no option of a breakfast outside of breakfast hours, no kettle in the room, no elevator, very small breakfast area, you basically see what your neighbor is eating, no choice of food, always the same set, that is being served to you like on the plane. Not very friendly staff. Only one socket in the room, which you can use either for a phone charging or hair drying, not both at the same time,or 2 devices at the same time
Location is very central, however on the road with its noise from cars and from drunk people walking white nights long
