Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI could say that in a few areas which we walked I would step on a tough nail or two which kinda hurt, along side it I think it'd only pertain to my bunkmates not exactly the hostel itself, they were, rather absorbing every bit of space, quite difficult to work in around them.
I quite like the aesthetic of the hostel, like the inside of a boat it was really cool, the staff were also very laid back and kind I loved it!

AustraliaBeds were very uncomfortable, mattress paper thin. Had to hold the button in for the shower to work, only 2 combined bathroom/shower in the venue so gets busy. Kitchen small. No activities until the busy season.
Very friendly staff. 2 X bathroom were clean.

United StatesNothing not to like really. If you're looking for luxury, this ain't it. But if you want to stay and support one of the coolest places in Iceland, stay here.
This is an amazing place. I run an arts center in the US and was intrigued that this remote arts center in Iceland also had a hostel and rooms to rent so we gave it a try. It's out toward the end of the beautiful Snæfellsnes peninsula and national park. It was also less than 10 minutes away from the whale watching tour we took out of Olafsvik, which is not to be missed. We stayed in one of their rooms that had a full bed and bunkbeds and our own bathroom. It was really comfortable and there was a great common area with a bar and all kinds of board games. Our room was off the theater and that night locals were watching a football match between Iceland and the Ukraine; much to their chagrin, Iceland lost. If you're looking for a unique place to stay and you want to support the local arts scene, this is your place!

United StatesThere was a large group that came in around 22:30 (which was past check-in when staff wasn’t there) and they were very rowdy and drunk all night. They saw that we were there but would not try and be quiet in the private areas. It didn’t quiet down until almost 5 hours later. They also left a mess in the kitchen and the main area, including taking a bunch of a drinks from the bar fridge without paying.
The location is located in a really cute town and right next to the shore. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. The bathrooms were very clean, especially compared to other guesthouses or hostels I’ve been to. We were able to cook our meals there and store food with no issue.

South AfricaThe owner was amazing. Very accommodating and friendly. We didn’t realise the shops would be closed for Christmas so he went back to his house to get us some food, we would have been very stuck without his help - thank you again for saving us!

United StatesI was lucky that there were only 4 people staying there, but the toilets & showers are in the same WC room, meaning if someone is showering the toilet is unavailable to everyone else. I could see this being a problem with more people staying there as there are are 2 toilet/shower rooms.
In addition to having good standard hostel amenities (shared kitchen, clean bathrooms with hot showers, good-sized rooms with decent beds), there is a huge communal "living room" space with couches, games, and good music. It made the stay much more enjoyable!

AustraliaI like the concept of integrating a community with travellers from around the world. Here I was able to get a glimpse of what genuine Iceland is like in remote fishing villages. There was several cinema nights in the theatre where all the locals would come to watch films developed by local film makers. First night was about the local football team and the second a fishing film about a man and his boat. Both films highlighted the importance of having a connection with your community and it was a great experience to watch these local films.

AustriaOnly small things: No way to change the temperature in the showers (I actually prefer them cold). I was missing pot lids in the kitchen. Maybe not a place for people that are very noise-sensitive, although ear plugs are provided.
Very friendly welcoming by the staff, who were also always available for questions during the day. The rooms and the building are bright and colorful, which makes for a stark contrast to the rather desolate town of Rif. Great culture center, with a bar, board games, table tennis, live concerts and cinema nights. Sometimes guided yoga sessions are held in the morning, and if not, you can still use the hostel's yoga mats. It's also a nice place to get in touch with other travelers and you even have a chance of meeting some local Icelandic people. Nice kitchen. Ear plugs are provided for free.
