Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FinlandA very dimmy and dark hostel with cramped rooms. Very atmospheric for those into 19th and 20th century literature. A cheap hellhole on some levels but everything worked and the guy working there were nice. They do also smoke inside and have their break rooms door open to the hallway so the feeling was quaranteed. Openable triple windows, so very quiet and warm and possibility to get some air in. For some reason the hostel trusts their guests to the degree where the rooms do not have real locks but every key fits every door. Did not feel comfortable leaving my valuables into my room. Got stuck in the bathroom once. The breakfast was nonexistent and they should not advertise these rooms including one. A pre-packed cornetto they didn't even replace after the first night, ahhaha!

IrelandThe building where the accommodation is located can be very dark at night. I was also waiting a long time to check in. When booking the accommodation, I mentioned 3-4pm as my expected arrival. I arrived at around 4:08pm, and I got no answer when I buzzed into the hotel. I got communication via the booking app at 3:25 asking when I would be checking in, which was very late. I replied to that message, and I also called the phone number on the door of the main building. It took 40 minutes before getting a response. This should not have happened.
The room was spacious. The accommodation was very close to the main train station. It was inexpensive. I was provided with two croissants for breakfast.

Czech RepublicWe had barely left the bathroom that a lady straight away started to clean it, despite the fact that we left it tidy and neat after us, so we were a little bit offended.
The location was very good, central just nearby ferries, bus and train station. And also, the check-in was possible until late which was also convenient (10pm)

GermanyParking in Trieste is very problematic and the street where the accommodation is located has a restricted access sign for cars. Only Sunday is possible. The host told us we could leave the car in the following days (I was going to stay for 5 days) since I had a german license plate although for what I could understand was actually not possible. Meaning a fine was going to be a possibility. If you are coming by train is very convenient. Because it was hot (beginning of August) we had to leave the windows open (No AC just a fan was available). Not extremely noisy but not quiet either. The room with two single beds was relatively small and crammed but doable. There is not a common area with fridge (to keep beverage cold for instance) and/or a table to sit down and chill out with other guests. The lift is fully manual (i.e. old belle epoque type)
The location was convenient (close to the train station) in a relatively quiet area. The service was friendly and the host was very accomodating. We reported a few problems and they react to fix them asap (see below). Wif looked stable and fast enough (I had to work with my laptop). The rooms are at the 3rd floor of an old building but there is a lift.

UkraineOld interior. It was very hot, there was an air conditioner, but we couldn't turn it on, so it's not clear if it worked at all.
Location and price are the main advantages of the hotel. Located a few minutes' walk from the train station and 7 minutes' walk from the center. In order to spend the night and go further - a great option. I was pleased that a Ukrainian woman works in the hotel, who explained everything nicely and clearly. Although the interior is very old - the bedding and towels were new. I was very pleased with the kettle, cappuccino in bags in the room. Close to a supermarket and the best ice cream in Trieste. The bathrooms have everything you need.

United KingdomThe shower kept getting blocked so had to have quick showers. The floors made a lot of noise and you can hear people from the next rooms if you made a little noise. There was a door that said sympathy for the devil which a bit creepy.
There wasn’t a kettle so the staff got one for me. There wasn’t any working heating so the staff got me a heater. There was a tv and working lights in the room and bathroom. Very clean place. They even offered me extra blankets. Art decor was nice. The place felt homely.

North MacedoniaI didn't their reception and customer service was non-existent, especially in a case of a neat emergency. It is rude to collect people's money and not provide any type of assistance, nor being able to reach the owners. It should be unacceptable and I hope no one else will go through this issue.

CroatiaConvenient location and very warm, helpful host. The rest...The noise and the cigarette smoking inside were terrible.I had room 1 and the boiler in the bathroom made a loud terrible noise it sounded like a tractor working all night long. The smoking inside was so vad the cigarette smoke was coming into my room from under my door, I had to cover it with a towel to prevent the smoke from coming in. My bed was a single metal matress like a cot with all the hard metal, my bones hurt all night and my body was numb and sore the next morning on my hip, shoulder for I slept on my right side. I would stay there again, but will definitely request another room.bthe host was so helpful, he kept my luggage safe till the next day. Location and value for the money is worth it!!

United StatesShabby room. The building lobby did not have proper lighting and there was no readable sign to be able to find the rooms, which were on the third floor. If the owner/manager hadn't happened to walk in at the moment I was standing and puzzling in the (dark) lobby I wouldn't have known where to look for the place, even though I had the right address. This is a HUGE downside to paying in advance!! That your site keeps places like this listed and requires prepayment will make me hesitant to use it in future.
