Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomTrieste is a bit difficult to find your way round, with its narrow streets, and on arrival I was not sure what to do, as there was not a taxi rank.
A comfortable hotel, with friendly staff. Good breakfast. Reception ordered a taxi for me back to the Trieste Centrale station. It turned up promptly.

SpainThe room was ok, but for 160€ per night for 2 adults, I would expect better isolation. Whenever the next room used the bathroom, it felt like we were sharing it.
Can park in the street close to the hotel

MaltaWe booked 2 rooms. Shower in room 203 was not like that of 202. Had to squeeze myself to get in...and I am not a large person. Room 202 was fine.

United StatesMy room's window faced the condo's internal courtyard, so the room was a bit dark.
Albergo Al Viale is located in downtown Trieste City Center and is closer to the bust stops and primary services (groceries, pharmacy, restaurants, and bars). The offered breakfast is "a la carte" (all you can eat, but it has to be ordered upon check-in/the night before. The room was clean and had amenities like complimentary espresso coffee/tea and a minibar option. The shower had a nice water flow pressure. Wifi was excellent! The personnel was very kind, and the premises were very tranquil.

United KingdomEverything was ok and no complaining, just I found room price a little expenseve, understandable because we are in Trieste, not far from Piazza Unita' d'Italia, the main square.
Room was quite big with 2 single beds.A desk with coffee machine provided but we never have the opportunity to use it.A fridge was a bonus with some drinks and snacks. Shower was good with lovely hot water.Breakfast super jummy with lot of delicious foods and good coffee and juice drink.Hotel is not far from centre and the sea and has lot of restaurants and bars in a very quite place, but not far from the centre.Staff very kind, especially the lady from Sicily that unfortunately I never asked her name. She help with our luggages to take us on main road when we left with taxi, because no any cars allowed near hotel but the main road is just one-two minutes walk.

United KingdomLate at night there was ambient smell of smoking. The scrambled eggs are made by baking them which may not be to everyone’s taste.
Charming location, handsome building and comfortable, clean room. The coffee at breakfast was delicious. The tree-lined street was full of buzzing cafes and was a short walk to the coastline.

United KingdomThe room decor was rather tired and a little shabby. The need to choose breakfast options in advance by ticking boxes was unusual. I would have preferred the chance to choose spontaneously but understand the hotel prefers to know what to stock.
I liked the location just off a buzzy tree lined street with lots of bars and restaurants. The building has character.

AustriaNot directly about the property just maybe good to know for other travelers: there is a parking garage called "Central" in about 150m walking distance and the owner told us that he charged 25€ for a full day (we arrived around 6pm), when we returned the next day it was suddenly 25€ for the night and then 2€ph for every hour after 10am. So we payed a lot more than we had anticipated and it all felt a bit like a scheme. So maybe take the other garage the hotel recommends, they might be more honest about their pricing.
The hotel is beautifully furnished and decorated, the room was spacious and very comfortable and the staff extremely friendly. Also the breakfast in the little courtyard was delicious. Should we ever travel to Trieste again, we'd definitely come back to hotel Al Viale.

United StatesNo instructions on where to park to unload; A/C too small for the size of room (it was very hot when we were there, so it would be adequate most of the time).

UkraineWater was spilling a bit from shower cabin as it wasn’t completely closed but this wasn’t a problem. Everything else was OK for three stars but location and old building make it even better
Hotel is nice, room was clean and enough big with big wardrobe. Room itself and bathroom have been refurbished so, everything looked quite fresh considering that it’s old building. We had place next to our room outside to seat, smoke, drink coffee. Breakfast was a bit simple but it was more than enough - You have to pre-order it. There are parking nearby and we could come directly to hotel (actually no any parking there even for short time) to take off our luggage. Location is in very center of the City
