Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI was in a female only dorm with us all asleep when at around midnight a male member of the cleaning staff came into change one of the beds for a late arrival. No explanation at all and woke everyone up. One of the 20 year olds even tried to ask him a question of why he was in there but maybe he didn't speak English as he said nothing. I completely understand the poor man was just trying to do his job, but whoever told him to go in at that time is completely unprofessional. Young women like us stay in female only dorms for safety, so to have a random man walk in the middle on the night without prior notice or explanation is terrifying - and extremely unprofessional as this should have happened much earlier in the day (even with female dorms you expect cleaners no matter what gender to come into clean during the day). It was just quite an abrupt way to be woken up in the middle of the night. This was a shame because the Reception staff upon arrival and check out were so friendly! After getting woken up I struggled to get back to sleep as the beds were so flimsy - every-time the person on the bottom bunk moved it was like an earthquake. I have stayed in bunks previously of course but these were easily the worst I've ever slept on. Thankfully I was only there for 2 nights before heading home so I just kinda accepted my fate.
Reception staff were really friendly and location is great from the Roma Termini, however after being there I learnt that locals recommend not to stay in this area as it can be quite dodgy which I wish I had known prior to booking. However for my needs it was perfect location. Lots of young people there so really good if you're a solo traveller (particularly a female!) and want to meet lots of other solo travellers.

United KingdomThe only complaint i would have is that drainage in the bathroom. Although much can not be done about the smell that might come from the drains when you flush the toilet, it’s a good thing that the windows are able to open wide enough to air the room out within 5 minutes. Otherwise, I find nothing to complain about.
The property is close enough to the train station that it’s easy enough to move around Rome if you aren’t the walking type. But it’s not so close that there are crowds of people and cars right outside the doorstep. It’s very convenient that’s there are 3 or more restaurants on the same street, where the food is amazing and the prices are not damaging. And if you enjoy nightlife, there is a lively bar left around the corner, with live music and lively people. And if you don’t fancy an overly crowded area but still want a drink, the Hostels bar is perfect. The drinks are cheap, and will definitely get the job done- especially the amazing cocktails- the bar staff are very friendly and have good taste in music. The room i stayed in (8 Mixed) had two bathrooms which made things easier. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean. The lockers are big enough for cabin sized luggage and a rucksack. Check in and out was easy. And it was easy to come and go at anytime you wanted.

AustraliaBeds were not overly comfortable, the showers were awkward, little wet rooms that opened into the corridor and the festival bracelet they give you upon check in reminds you (and anyone who sees it) how little you are paying per night.
Great location, had a kitchen, lounge and attached bar at nights.

AustraliaBeds are thin and the showers are wet rooms with only a hook for all your belongings, the women's floor has a sink you can perch your stuff on but it's impossible to keep everything dry.

ItalyThe bunkbeds are really cheap, they move a lot and they don't have any kind of curtains. If someone take a shower the bathroom is going to be completely wet. There is a little common area, but it's really small and good just for reading.
Close to Termini train station. 24h reception. Good price for the quality. Bathroom both in the room and outside. Mattress and pillow comfortable enough. Internal bar. The dormitories are big enough.

United StatesOne member of the staff didn’t have a clue how to read there registration system for who is suppose to be in each room. Being woken up at 5:30am to be told I’m a week early for my reservation really pissed me off. There was no breakfast here like in other hostels I’ve stayed at. Only communal kitchen where it’s BYO stuff. Other then the typical broken stuff around the property it wasn’t bad
That is was centrally located and about a 6 min walk to the central train station. Fair amount of places to eat near by. Of course the price was great

FranceThe price was a little bit to high, but I assume it was for new year...About the hostel, the only bad point was the common bathroom which was full of water, the shower splashed water everywhere.
Everything was good, I enjoy my stay! The room was good, everything clean! also the kitchen was good. And it has a good location, if you like walking to everywhere, it is perfect for you!

United StatesTissues in the toilets can be of better quality, no USB ports in the rooms (but there are a few near the kitchen with seating around), the surroundings seem shady (but that could just be me, but I grew up in India, so I think it's a fair bet)
Closeness to the center (also a con), happy hour at the bar, karaoke sometimes; if you're a social person, you'll have a blast of a time, otherwise, it can be as quiet as you make it, hair dryer in the toilet!
