How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Alex is such a great host! He gave us all the details regarding the city, restaurants and location we might have needed. The location is great as well, it takes 20-30 minutes of walking to reach the city centre, which makes the location more quiet and less touristic

Bathroom was not so clean for me.
The location was perfect to visit the ancient city which was one tram ride. The train station is in the walking distance. Nice restaurants in Trastavere are also near by. The apartment had a water dispenser which was a huge plus for me. It has a kitchen and living area shared with other guests. We didn't have much time to use the area though. But it can be useful for the people who want to cook. The owner, Alex was a wholesome guy who helped us as much as he could. I can totally recommend this apartment to whoever is looking for a convenient place to stay to visit Rome

The pillows were not very comfortable, it would be nice if these could be upgraded.
Very comfortable space, and excellent location near Trastevere station. Alex was very kind and helpful in his communications. The bed was very comfortable, I would recommend this place.

Alex's Guest House was our place we booked on the basis of the information that the booking.com website offered. And it was most certainly a big success. We had a fine room, with our own bathroom, in an appartement with a shared kitchen/living room, where we could use facilities, as far as we needed. The environment is pleasant, Trastevere turned out to be a pleasant part of Rome with facilities such as restaurants, supermarket, but also a very good public transportation connection to get around in Rome. Very pleasant and comfortable. But all this is topped by the personality of the host, Alex himself. He is a friendly, hospitable person, who showed himself eager to make us feel at home. His tips for going around in Rome were helpful, we had the best of meals either in places he mentioned or area's where to find good dining places. We most certainly want to return to Alex's Guest House, as it was in all aspects our perfect home in Rome!

We enjoyed our stayed at Alex's. It's pretty easy to get to the city center by bus, or even walking (it's about half an hour). Alex was really nice an welcoming and pointed us how to go around the city :)

The place is nice, well furnished and the location is great! And Alex is what makes the difference. Always friendly and happy to help, making our short stay as pleasant as possible. We would definitely come back.

The room/bathroom could probably do with a little updating but otherwise great :)
Ideal location for my partner and I exploring Rome. We used the bus service to get in/out of Rome and the bus stop is just around the corner. The room was basic but had everything we needed. It was fantastic value for money and Alex is always available for any advice/recommendations.

Pillows definitely need updating. FYI when paying tax have correct money as change won't be given.
Size of the room was good, the mattress was one of the best, location is perfect. Able to walk 4km into centre of Rome, or catch bus directly into centre. There are several supermarkets within 2 minute walk. Food options close by. Host was helpful with information.

Location of the apartment is very good. Not very turistic, which is a plus, but still close to the main attractions and local restaurants. Alex - the host - was extremely friendly, kind and helpful. On day one he explain everything to us, gave us a map and mentioned all the places worth visiting. Thank you Alex!
