Great location, super clean and very nicely decorated. This place was the highlight of our trip to southern Italy. Paola and Francesco are the best, and they can tell you about the history of Matera and recommend great places across Basilicata and Puglia. The rooms are super comfortable and high-end. They thought about every single detail. Breakfast is fantastic and the whole staff make your stay unique. I would love to come back to Matera and stay at Aque Cave again. You should not think twice and stay here. You will not be disappointed. Easiest decision ever

Hot water was a little slow in arriving!

Only four rooms but an outstanding ‘caveman’ dwelling! Beautifully restored/developed blending the original cave with modern amenities. Perfect location for exploring Matera. If driving highly recommend the park and shuttle service that avoids the need to park in the city and cart luggage. Shuttle drops you yards from the hotel. Excellent breakfast and great hosts.

We loved our 3 days at Aque Cave. Paola was so welcoming and really went above and beyond to be helpful. Room was a delight - so comfortable and beautifully renovated. Staff was really pleasant. Great location.

Everything. The room is sooooo spacious and well-decorated with style, it’s truly a unique but very comfortable experience to stay in Acque Cave. I love all the details they put in the room that make guest feel comfortable and relaxed, including the fragrance, candles, and very good quality room amenities! The slippers, shower gel/shampoo/conditioner/bath salt are the best I had in my 14 nights travel in Italy this time. What’s add-on and invaluable bonus about Acque Cave is its hosts, Paola and Francesco are the most welcoming and accommodating, they gave us very useful and important advice on how to park the car (and it’s in a cheap rate!!!) and where to eat and drink in Matera. Those are the good advice and recommendations you can’t find on Google but from them. Paola also gave us a very vivid history background about Matera and Acque Cave with made me feel connected with this beautiful and unique place immediately. I appreciate everything here and I strongly recommend to visit Matera and stay in Acque Cave!

Fantastic stay at this lovely hotel! The owners Paola and Francesco were extremely welcoming and helpful, recommending and booking restaurants before our arrival, giving us lots of helpful tips and a history of the town. Rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated. Breakfast spread was amazing and kept us full for hours! Wonderful hotel!

Wow, what a unique experience to stay in a cave like this! Something about it was very calming and relaxing. I especially loved the interior design, it fit the cave perfectly and provided great ambience. The room was spacious and actually smelled quite nice! Breakfast was good and there was a big cistern underneath the breakfast place. The host was nice and helpful and offered some history about the room which was very interesting!

Paola and Francesco were absolutely amazing hosts. Their hotel is immaculate and the service was unmatched. The hotel is located in a great location with everything in walking distance. Room was exactly as shown online. Breakfast was an added bonus! We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone!

Chose this cave by the pictures, but we didn’t know yet we’ve found a treasure! Room was even better what we saw on the internet, location perfect, extra tidy and cozy, and the staff, Paola was the most helpful host we’ve ever met!

Only wish we had planned to stay more than one night!

The Aque Cave is a must! What better way to experience the beautiful Sassi than sleeping in a genuine cave! The room was very clean and had beautiful touches throughout. The breakfast was exceptional. Paola was incredible!!! She went out of her way to help us find parking, gave us a tour and history of the area and was so incredibly warm and hospitable. She made our stay extra special! The cave is in a great location and the area is breathtakingly beautiful!

They gave us a lot of suggestion regarding foods and what we have to see in Matera. The owner of aque cave is really nice, I could spend a lot of time talking to him about matera as well.

Absolutely nothing

Aque Cave made our stay in magical Matera even better. Everything is done in good taste. The room smelled heavenly, not musty like you would think being in a cave though people sensitive to scent would be put off. The bed and even the pull out sofa were the ultimate in comfort, even the quality of the toiletries were top notch. Breakfast was great and had a bit of everything to suit most tastes. The location couldn't have been better, right at the entrance to the Sassi so you don't have to carry your luggage too far on the uneven stones. The hosts provided useful information prior to arrival and were very accommodating . Truly a wonderful experience and highly recommend this unique place.

I made a very small reduction in the “value” category as it is a bit pricey for the region, but truly, it’s more than worth it! Stay here!

Spectacular! Just the novelty of staying in a cave would have done the trick, but the Owners took it to another level with the fittings (wonderful shower and teardrop tub), design details and comfort. A lovely breakfast as well with the tiniest pears I have ever seen 😃. And Paola, her brother and even our brief chat with their Father made our stay there even better. Excellent recommendations and highest level of customer service. I will be back one day!
