Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Marcello and Paola were delightful hosts who were so helpful, kind and knowledgeable. Their BandB is excellent for mind, body and spirit. Whilst Marcello’s knowledge across everything from the ancient history of Lipari to which birds are currently migrating is amazing, Paola’s cooking skills and artistic touches are superb. They are a very warm, welcoming couple who have a wonderful rustic abode.

AustraliaNeeded to hire a car as it became clear in the first few days of our seven night stay that relying on the bus was not an option.

GermanyMarcello and Paola are perfect hosts and the rooms are very nice. They serve a wonderful selfmade breakfast. For other meals an outdoor kitchen can be used and is very good equipped. Highly recommended.

United StatesMarcello picked up us up at the dock, which was very helpful, but you will need to figure out how to get around--taxi? bus? Or the ever present Sicilian scooter.
B&B Al Salvatore is a lovely old home on two levels overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Cacti, oleander, and blooms of all kinds surround the house. The rooms are very nice, but the hosts, Paola and Marcello are even nicer. Paola, an artist as well as a chef, does the breakfasts and the occasional dinner (which is extra). But the food! The evening! The company! Al Salvatore and its hosts brings out the best.

PolandNothing to add.
Stay at B&B Al Salvatore Di Lipari was great choice. Marcelo picked us up from the port with his oldschool fiat. During the ride, we had a chance to listen to history of Lipari. Marcelo is great host, very helpful and with a big knowledge. Property is located 25 minutes walk from centre of Lipari on the heel, with amazing view. There is a free parking on the plot. Breakfast was absolutely amazing - traditional, tasty, simple sicilian dishes ( homemade), interesting talks with other guests. colourful table ware. Paula, Marcelo's wife is amazing artist who takes care of interior design, furniture, details, which as an architect I really appreciated.

United StatesIt's hot on the island and there is no AC -- there are huge ceiling fans and I was comfortable, but if you don't like heat, you could have trouble.
This place is so beautiful. After a few days, I felt more relaxed than I have felt in many years. The surroundings and garden are sublime, and the breakfast is just unbelievably delicious. The hosts, Marcello and Paola, make you feel like you're part of their family, which I loved. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's partly because of that that you feel so at peace there. You feel immersed in the place in a way that carries you away from whatever stresses are part of your usual life.

GermanyIt is one of the best B & B´s I know. Such a nice place, lovely garden, so quiet, wonderful view to the sea. And Marcello and Paola are always there for you, if you need anything. And the breakfast really is great! We are coming back, thank you!

United KingdomMarcello was absolutely charming and with his witty Whatsapps guided us in to the home port through choppy Spring seas and cancellations. He then met us in his vintage Fiat and made the drive home a fascinating little tour of towering Al Salvatore and the epic view to Vulcano at the observatory. And of course, being an academic, you also get a superior level of history and science thrown in from Marcello for free! Then you have the icing-on-the-cake of arriving at this beautiful hilltop B&B. So, we had already been picked by the host in a classic car, taken to a photographer's dream location and the garden is full of wonderful cacti and succulents - which means that three of my main interests in life were already covered on arrival. We were fortunate to get the room attached to the top level, with a bonus amount of space and privacy. It was very comfortable, with some quirky art and a lovely vintage dresser ... our kind of place. The terrace has additional comfy sofas for all to use whilst taking in that vibrant vista. Breakfast here is rightly legendary and what the lovely Paola produces from the garden is extraordinay, not only the horticulture involved but also the culinary skills and presentation. Almost everything is homegrown & homemade - even the nuts! Both sweet & savoury tastes are catered for. Top Tips: The B&B's epic view means that yes, this place is high up! There is a little bus (€1.30) but the schedule is a bit sparse, the last one being 4.40pm from town (the 3pm one didn't show up!). There is a straight road down through a narrow valley to walk to town, it is not residential - mainly boatyards. After a night out you may want to get a taxi back (€15). You can also see the island and do some hiking in one day's car rental. We had fun in a yellow Punto soft-top from the 'dudes' by the ferry ticket office, but it was not well maintained and so well, hmmm ... maybe ask Marcello for his own recommendation first!
