Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PolandThe place is fantastic. The Host is very kind and helpful. A lot of little nice surprices like snacks. The localization is great - in the middle of Sassi Barisano. The apartment is wonderful with the spirit of the past but in modern style. You will not regret staying in Casa Masiello.

GreeceEverything was perfect.
The location is one of the best in Matera. Secondly this house-cave can give you a real experience and feelings, just like the people who were leaving there, the good and the bad moments of Matera history. The enterior decoration is perfect and Giovanni, the owner, really kind and helpful.

The host, Giovanni, was super helpful and knowledgeable about Matera, the place was unique and perfectly located. We were just amazed by Matera and Casa Masiello multiplied and complemented our experience. Originally, we were going to leave after one day, but had to stay longer to properly enjoy this enchanting city.

United KingdomThere is no wifi in the house and mobile reception is tricky to get from inside. I would assume these are issues that most places like this in the Sassi have to deal with, but if you're planning to work remotely from here during your stay in Matera, I'm here to tell you that it isn't happening. The house also does not have a washing machine. Neither were an issue for me, but just wanted to call these out for other travelers who may not be as flexible.
This is an incredibly unique and special property. It has been renovated very well and has all kinds of cool touches. It's VERY large, so you won't feel constrained at all, especially given that you're staying in a cave. The downstairs cellar/cave feature is really cool, albeit if it's not overly useful. However, I'm sure it gets used extensively in the summer months when it's hot out (I was there in early May). The main bed is very comfy, the water pressure in the shower is high, and the place has all the amenities you could ever need. One thing to note, though- when I was there the weather was still a bit cooler and at night the house can get a bit cold (due to it being a cave and no fault of the host). There are heaters around the house that help with this, but the place is not going to feel like your standard home. The heat rises, so the main bedroom that's elevated gets very warm at night with heaters on. This wasn't an issue for us, but just a note that if you're here in the non-summer months, bring a sweatshirt and some slippers to hang out in. The location is really great. I came by car and was able to park for free on a street about 300-400M away. The host met us and let us into the house, but it also has a coded entry system, so you could easily get into the house if the host simply texted you the code. This is easily one of the most interesting places I've ever stayed in, so you certainly won't be disappointed if you make this your home in Matera!

United KingdomThe issue for us was parking our hire car. Matera was busier in the shoulder season than we thought and though the info online suggested we park in a big carpark and walk to the Sassi area, in actual fact we had to find on street parking. It was absolutely rammed and took some finding. We struggled walking quite a way with our bags. Although we could have packed lighter I think it is useful to know parking here can be very tricky indeed and people should allow time to find it.
Giovanni was great - patient when we struggled to park then meet him. His place was immaculate, spacious and full of history! We had everything we needed. Very open plan. Great location very close to everything except parking! Matera is an extraordinary place and well worth at least two days. It's clean, organised, and although it was busy managed to maintain an air of relaxation! Excellent restaurants, astonishing views around every corner - and there were alot of corners.
