Loved everything about this place. The host is really the best someone could wish for. He arranged a free parking spot for us outside the old town and waited us for almost 2 hours in the parking to pick us up and then accompanied us with his car at the house. He gave us every information we may needed about the town and the places to eat and visit. The house was so beautiful and loved the fact that it was authentic. Perfect location and the view when you open the door just in front of Church of Saint Mary of Idris, was superb. Thank you Lorenzo for making our stay so pleasurable.

Lorenzo and his father Mario were outstanding hosts. This is their family home and we feel incredibly privileged to have been guests there. If you are lucky they may help you with your car- parking it out of the toll area and helping you to the accomodation. We have not ever had a better accomodation experience, they cared for us and our stay very much.

Great location, beautifully decorated home. The sassi shuttle stops just a few meters away from Casa Contini and Lorenzo and his father were kind enough to arrange for a parking spot close to a shuttle stop outside the restricted driving area and help with the luggage. Surely to stay again whenever I return to Matera. Thank you

It was our first time in Matera and everything went perfect. Signor Mario was an exceptional host. He reserved a free parking spot for us outside Sassi and provided a free transfer to the Casa and back. He also gave some helpful information on restaurants and point of interest. Location was perfect for exploring the old Sassi. The attention to detail in the home was fantastic!

Traditional cave houses with advanced equipment. Very comfortable. The location is not far from the new city. Water quality is good. It is recommended to stay and take a look. The best thing is that the host is very helpful and friendly. We give it a 5-star rating and will definitely find time to stay here again!

It’s not exaggerating that we enjoyed everything in Casa Contini. The owner Mario and his son Lorenzo are very friendly and hospitable. The house has been very well maintained. It is comfy and clean with plenty of space and it boasts a nice view of the rock church. We would like to go back again if we have a chance in the future.

The hosts are so genuine and so supportive that it really touched our hearts. We were travelling with an over 80 years family member. The host took care of our needs with an amazing attitude, even took us to the bus stand upon departure back to the Bari airport, and stayed until the bus came! The renovated family cave habitation is unique, very spacious and offers the type of experience we wanted to blend in the historical part of Matera. The position is so good, close to everything to see, restaurants, specialised shops and art shops. We have no hesitation recommending" Casa Contini "

Over the years I gave the maximum rating for a few accommodations but this time I feel like Booking should introduce a special rating for excellence as I feel that Casa Contini is not only an experience in itself but represents a synthesis of the “genius loci”, completing and enriching the already memorable atmosphere of the city. This starts with it’s special layout that is as “materan” as you could get: You climb a few steps to small terrace (great for the day’s last glass of wine), then enter into a living space which an annexed alcove dug straight into the bedrock (somewhere under the street above and over the small art shop below) , followed by a few steps down to a tall bedroom that offers a great view to the rupester church. It is beautifully finished and furnished, with great attention to creating an immersive feeling. You’ll find no hodge-podge of Ikea-style furniture, nor eye-sore modern fittings as everything is either original or looks well picked-out and carefully implemented in the design. More so, being centrally located on the main street that traverses both Sassi’s means it’s easily accessible without having to haul your luggage up endless stairs and is close to a lot of “5-minute shortcuts” trough the Escher-dreamt cityscape to the main tourist objectives and a wide choice of restaurants and bars (some right next door). In conclusion it deserves the highest praises, and I would recommend this to anyone wishing to truly live the experience of this unusual city. PS: Special congratulations must go to the hosts, as they managed to transform what I understood to be their old family’s home to this jewel. They were not only welcoming but gave us a great insight to what Matera was over the years and how it transformed to what we see today. We are lucky to have met them.
