How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Limited number of showers for the number of people staying.
A perfect hostel for travelling to Cinque Terre. The hosts were fantastic. They made everyone feel welcome and gave some excellent recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. The hostel held events in the evening which were great.

Only 3 showers... Might get a little crowded..
Clean spacious hostel. Spacious showers, very friendly owner. Location is perfect. Would definitely recommend it.

This was my first hostel experience and it was great. The people working there are very friendly and welcoming, the rooms are big and have enough space for four people to move around when getting ready. The location is pretty central and close to restaurants, the port and train station.

My room was directly beside the bathrooms and the walls were exactly soundproof. But this was super minor and didn’t really bother me much!
Been travelling around Europe for the last 3 weeks and this is my favourite hostel by far! I was greeted at the door by Andrea and the rest of the Costello team and was offered a welcome drink right away. Everyone I met was incredibly friendly and they even had pasta night during one of my nights there! Bathrooms and rooms were always clean, there was free coffee and tea and I loved the terrace area. Location is only a 10 min walk away from the station and the staff even helped me purchase my Cinque Terre card at the hostel. Amazing experience!

I only have a very small improvement suggestion. The usb charger of bottom bunk in Room 1, I think it is bed F, doesn’t charge properly. Instead charging, it seems to use more battery on my phone. It would also be nice to have a toilet separate from showers but this is minor.
I have been to over 40 hostels and this is the best one! I cannot praise the owners, management and the employees enough! The staff were exceptionally friendly and warm, amazing rooms and beds, a curtain for the bottom bunks, oversized lockers with a provided key, a clean kitchen, a gorgeous terrace, lots of free little foods, the fruit infused water, free towels, and especially a spotless bathroom! I felt so comfortable there. I cannot stress how well maintained this place is.

The beds made a lot of noise
Our stay was amazing, very social place with great staff and guests who gave tips! The outside area and kitchen was a great place to relax by yourself and also meet others. Bathrooms and rooms were very clean as well as everything else. It was the perfect base to visit Cinque Terre

The staff were some of the friendliest you'd find. They welcomed us with a delicious dinner and made it easy for everyone to get to know each other. They also made sure I made the most of my time at Cinque Terre and recommended a few local spots.

loved how homie this hostel was! the most comfy and spacious beds. outside terrace was lovely and all the facilities were top notch. staff were super helpful and welcoming. short walk to the train station for the Cinque Terre 5 train which ran regularly. would 10000% recommend!

It was sort of hard to find from the outside because it’s in a building with other apartments and what not, so you have to use your passcode to get into the building, climb the stairs, and then use your passcode again to enter the actual hostel. Not bad, just could be better marked. The beds and doors are a bit creaky so I always felt like I was making a lot of noise, and the bed curtains don’t provide total privacy.
The staff here were so incredibly nice that even though the hostel wasn’t perfect, I can’t help but give it a 10/10! It’s very clean and not filled with a million people. I got a text beforehand from the owner to confirm my arrival time, he then gave a very warm welcome tour of the facilities, and that night they offered free pesto pasta which was one of my favorite meals of my whole trip! It had a lovely balcony and many bathroom stalls. The room I shared was pretty spacious. Also Cinque Terre is just a magical place overall, so I had a great time. Wish I stayed longer!

Getting laundry done was a bit difficult. Left with my clothes damp.
Friendly staff. Good location, close to the train station. They even made us pasta with pesto !

The bathroom is shared and you need to cross the reception to access it. It also can mean a little waiting during peak hours. The upper bunk beds were a little noisy.
The hosts were very warm and wonderful. They made sure I enjoyed my stay as well as found people to socialize with. I ended up going kayaking with some of the people from the hostel. The kitchen was well-stocked and accessible to all at all times. Outdoor terrace is also quite nice and has homey vibes. They were also super flexible when I wanted to extend my stay by a day or needed help with some of my electronics.
