This place is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed in. The attention to detail is remarkable. It is romantic, comfortable, classy and one of the most unique places we have ever stayed. The amenities are first class, quality bathroom products, bedding, and lighting. The room is cool, smelt divine and was super private and sound proof. Staying in Matera at night is a remarkable experience, as night falls the city lights up. The colours of the buildings change and the city quietness. So beautiful. The outdoor seating is a great spot for a pre dinner drink and to watch the sun set. The breakfast is beautifully presented and offers a great variety. Would recommend for anyone wanting a unique and romantic experience.

This place is absolutely gorgeous and you truly get the feel of what is area is famous for. It has all the charm and beauty but modern amenities. It’s in a great location and so easy to walk to everything. The staff got in touch prior to help coordinate a smooth check in and helped us find parking. I can’t recommend this place enough.

We were disappointed that our room was not part of the main property. We had to walk a short distance to another street where the larger unit was located. We were 4 people (myself, my wife and 2 teenagers) and the main building only accommodates rooms for 2 guests. We also had some ants in our room, but given the location, it is understandable. It was also quite humid in the room, but they had dehumidifiers running to help. Again, this is simply a function of the location. Lastly, we were disappointed with the bathroom, particularly the shower. There was some mold in the shower and it was very difficult to regulate the temperature of the water. Given the cost of the room, the bathroom was not up to par.

Beautiful accommodation and excellent staff. My wife twisted her knee going down a step and one of the staff immediately got her some ice to help with the pain. I also needed to adjust my car rental reservation and the staff was very helpful and allowed me to make several phone calls to sort it out. Breakfast was outstanding, huge variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, baked goods, excellent coffee and more. The dining area itself is also lovely. There were also several restaurants nearby and easy access to the main road.

Stunning character accomodation in cave rooms in one of the Matera Sassi. The rooms were atmospheric, spacious and comfortable. The hotel is located just meters from many lovely restaurants and we were provided with a list of recipes. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choices including fruit, cereal, yoghurt, pastries, cold cuts and also a small selection of hot food. The staff were very friendly, they organised a taxi from the train station for us. We enjoyed a welcome drink on arrival at the hotel and staff explained some of the details of the room. We also availed ourselves of a wine tasting which was wonderful. We tasted 5 wines and also tasted some typical small antipasto foods from the area. We thought it was very good value.

Such a unique experience in the caves. Great location for walking around. Make sure you plan ahead with parking and having a hotel transfer if you have a car. Do not try to walk with luggage. Would not trade the hotel experience in the middle of this historic town.

Pleasant and helpful reception in a beautifully designed room carved in stone and rock. Also smells clean and fantastic. Nice mattress, slept well, lobby is beautifully lit, making the parts carved in stone look biblical. Most importantly, however, the hotel captures the experience, one of the nicest hotels we stayed in on our Italy trip. Grade 9/10

On arrival we were advised that the air-conditioning wasn’t working and they were trying to get it fixed as soon as possible (which they did by the next day, note our arrival date was a Sunday so very difficult to resolve any earlier). The keys to the room where a little problematic as you had to be really precise - but nothing detrimental!

A once in a lifetime-style experience, for a reasonable price as you definitely get your moneys worth! From the second we arrived we were made to feel special, with wine on arrival, baggage taken to our room and a full introduction to the hotel, the facilities, etc. The breakfast which was included was a really high standard, and on our day of check-out we needed to depart before breakfast so they delivered a box of it in advance to our room so that we didn’t miss out! All in all, from the style, location and hospitality, our stay here will be something we remember for years to come & hope to experience again! Any issues, questions or queries were responded to or resolved in a very timely manner (which is a rarity for such a short stay in most places). Thank you to all the team!

The bed was slightly uncomfortable and creaky and the bathroom layout didn't allow for much privacy.

The reception and rooms were beautifully decorated and the breakfast was great with a range of sweet and savoury options. Located 4 min walk from the main bit but with lots of restaurants and bars around.

I had a little trouble with the shower but the staff was helpful in fixing it. I really have nothing bad to say.

The staff is amazing! It is such a unique experience to stay in the former Sassi. The concierge recommended us an incredible restaurant for dinner and made us a reservation, so helpful. Breakfast is wonderful to boot.

The space in the shower was small, and there was no blackout curtains in the windows.

The staff was very kind and friendly, and assisted us with booking dinner, tours etc. The hotel itself is really amazing, built inside caves and with fancy decoration. Breakfast was the best we had during our trip to Italy.
