That was better than a dream. Staying in this appartment and have Mr. Savio as a host is like a dream come true. I read comments from previous visitors before I booked staying here and I thought: let's see If It's true, but this was better than we could dream. I'm 40 years old and I have seen a lot of places till now, but this was the best experience ever. Best host and most beautiful city I have ever seen. Mr. Savio picked us on train Station and showed us most beautiful points in Matera. In his 10 of 10 perfect appartment, on great location in the heart of Sassi, best foccacia waited on us, and juices and sweets for our children and coffe maschine with best coffe ever. Appartment is really perfect. He showed us next day also additional spots in Matera and Mr. Savio: It was an honor to meet you and visit your city . Thank you also for taking care for our children. You are the man with huge heart and soul and your city as well. In our eyes you are the legend. We will never forget Matera, you and staying at your perfect appartment. We will come back.

I can't think of anything, really it was all exactly as described and better.

The property is exactly as described: very clean, well-appointed, very quiet at night, and extremely well located. There are plenty of breakfast items and beverages on site and we were even welcomed with fresh focaccia. Savio, the host, goes far above what is expected. Some reviews say that the host makes you feel like family, but it definitely applies here. From easy and warm check in, to dining reservations, to making sure we got to see the best of Matera, Savio was the best host we've ever experienced.

We had a great time in ‘Il Risveglio nei Sassi’, from the warm welcome extended by Savio, to the comfort of the apartment we can’t fault anything. Savio’s hospitality is a reflection of his personal charm and warmth as a person. He would stop at nothing, to make as fell comfortable and cared for. The quality of the refurbishment in the apartment is very high from the choices of material, the design and the decoration. The property is fitted with a state of the art fresh air recirculating system, which means the apartment also has perfect temperature and air quality. The apartment is located only 3 minutes from Piazza Vittorio Veneto, yet it enjoys a position of silent and tranquility in the heart of Sassi.

Nothing. It was perfect. My only statement is that you need to know that you can't drive near the apartment. We parked in a big garage in the "new" town for 10 euros a day. Not bad. We didn't touch the car for 3 days. Normally we would have explored other small towns in the area, but Matera kept us busy for two full days (3 nights) of sightseeing and eating. Many good restaurants in town too.

This place was amazing, and I'm not prone to flattery or exaggeration. It was the 5th apartment we had stayed in (all found through Booking and around the same price) and by far the best. What was remarkable was the thought they had put into everything. These apartments generally are stand-alones, no don't serve breakfast. That's ok with us, we don't (and shouldn't) eat breakfast. But they had stocked the fridge with water, juice, milk (yeah! for my coffee), and a bunch of other small drinks. They had a coffee machine and kettle. It's surprising how many places don't have both. More that one roll of TP! Extra blankets! Nice bed and pillows. There are two large beds, one up, one down. You could have two couples stay here, or a small family, but you'd need to be good friends with everyone. There are 2 bathrooms tho, such a treat. But, the best is Savia. We don't think he owns the apt, but is the caretaker? I could be wrong there. Anyway, he volunteered to tour us around the day after we arrived. We had a great time getting places we never would have known about. Caves, small churches, lots of views. His pride in his town was overwhelming. Just about the sweetest man there could be. He even drove us to our car the day we left so we wouldn't have to deal with the old city, no parking, etc.

Savio's traditional Materan home was by far our favorite stay in all of Italy. I've traveled throughout Italy and can say I will never forget this home. Easily the most comfortable and welcoming home (including the most comfortable bed!). Savio was an incredible host and made us feel extremely welcomed; he is an incredible person! He provided many suggestions around Matera that were invaluable. I will never forget the focaccia. The home is immaculately clean, the bathrooms are spacious, there are more amenities (snacks, coffee, drinks, etc.) than any hotel, and the entire space is well-designed. The location could not be better, being situated just under the newer section of the old city easily accessible to all parts of the old city. It is truly a unique experience I will recommend to all my friends and family. And Savio is a true host and a true pleasure to be around. Grazie Savio! Arrivederci!

We spent four wonderful days in Matera and stayed at this fantastic apartment. The apartment was amazing and couldn't have been of a higher standard. It is hard to review this apartment without mentioning our wonderful host Savio . He was there for our every need . He met us when we arrived and explained everything to us, and provided us with lovely freshly baked focaccia, wine and a fridge stocked with all sorts of goodies. He not only was our host but acted as our private tour guide. Nothing was too much for him. He gave us a two hour walking tour of his city and explained everything to us. The next morning he collected us in his car and brought us to see some lovely churches and the UNESCO world heritage site showing us some caves and giving us their history This would not have been possible for us without his kind offer. He checked in on us every morning to check if we needed anything, and brought us to the train station when we were leaving. He is a very happy, generous and funny man and definitely added to our stay. If visiting Matera I would not look any further than this beautiful apartment . Big Thank you Savio

This is a hidden Gem in the city of Sassi in Matera. The attention to detail the location is 10/10. Our only regret is we only stayed one night and not at least two. Everything was perfect!

STOP - do not look at any other accommodations for Matera - this is the place you MUST stay!!! 1. The Apartment: -Very spacious and very clean -Air conditioning works great -Unit is stocked with snacks, breakfast items, water, juice, limoncello, wine, etc... 2. The Location: -The location is perfect within the heart of the Sassi -Easy walk to nearby restaurants, shopping, sites and main squares -There are no cars allowed (within ZTL limited traffic zone - historical section), however this was not a problem, the car park is very accessible within an easy 10 minute walk 3. The Host: -Savio is very kind and a true gentleman -He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Matera -Savio took us by his car (special ZTL limited traffic zone pass) and walked us to all of the sites explaining the history, people, caves, etc. -He showed us some of the filming locations for the James Bond 007 "No Time To Die" movie -Savio made restaurant reservations for us and even gave our family members gifts on our last day! -He had sent us beautiful photos before we arrived and took family pictures for us while visiting the sites -He also consistently checked to ensure we were doing OK and if we needed anything. When we had left Matera, Savio asked me to message him that we arrived at our next destination safely -NOTE: This was an expected bonus - you do NOT need to hire a seperate tour guide. Savio will personally show you all the amazing sites and his love of Matera (no stress - enjoy)! 4. Other: -We had a very minor problem with the coffee machine not working. Within minutes, we had fresh cappuccinos delivered to our door from a nearby bar! Savio had also treated us with breakfast the next morning! -This was truly an amazing and very memorable experience! -Bravo! -Fantastico!

One-of-a kind place, it was like being in the movie . The ambiance of Il Risveglio dei sassi is what makes it worth visiting Matera alone. There is a charm at every turn, homey feel , spotless. The owner Savio who he became a true friend is a real charmer, there was a yummy “focaccia” waiting for us on the table. He was very friendly and answered all our needs and questions to make us feel happy.

It's really a shame we didn't stay for longer!

What wasn't there to love?! It's very rare one finds an apartment which you believe truly justifies its price tag. Indeed, at £199 for just one night (£100 each), it initially felt like a necessary price to foot for a beautiful location, but I can honestly say that every penny was worth it. Savio met us at the carpark we dropped our car at and drove us straight into the centre of the old town to the apartment. An incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic host, he told us many facts about the area and gave us very good recommendations. Once we got to the apartment, he showed us around, and had baked us a large fresh focaccia, leaving us a bottle of wine, a fully stocked breakfast bar, and a number of things in the fridge and freezer. He booked us a place at a restaurant he recommended, and suggested places we should visit during our stay. (The city is incredible by the way, but that's outside the scope of this review). The following morning, he met us at the apartment and drove us to the other side of the valley to give us a guided tour of the caves, dropping us back off at the carpark in time for us to leave for the airport. What a genuinely lovely, passionate and incredibly interesting host with an amazing apartment. I would wholeheartedly recommend you stay here.

Everything is great, The Host Savio and his family provided excellent service to us. They put many food and drinks in the house including dessert , snack and delicious homemade biscuit. Savio provided us many useful information and accompanied us to explore Matera. He is very kind and his care and hospitality made us feel very warm. The house is very comfortable, clean and very beautiful with many fancy decoration. They installed ventilation so there is no humidity and no damp smell in the house. The facilities are new and working normally. From the layout and design of the house, you will know that they are very attentive. Absolutely perfect location and property. The icing on the cake was our host who was the most generous, kind and caring gentleman you’d ever wish to meet. Savio met us and allowed us safe parking at his own home. He drove us to the property showing us points of interest along the way. The following morning Savio was our guide around the beautiful city of Matera. Savio ensured that our time in Matera was perfect.

This property is spectacular. Any amenity you need is in the room. super comfortable beds, pillows and sheets. all the breakfast necessities including sweet pastries are waiting for you. we were thrilled to find snacks and a bottle of wine to greet us. The 2 bathrooms are large and comfortable. Savio is a wonderful host and was most helpful with anything we needed. This was the best stay of our 2 weeks in Italy. No doubt I will be back again.

It was all awesome. Savio, the host, picked us up in the center of Matera and found us a free parking space. House is beautiful, really big and smelled amazing! Beautifully decorated, and immaculately clean. 007, James Bond, no time to die was filmed in Matera and some of them were in this house. (See picture) 2 bathrooms, 2 double beds, a single bed and a sofa. Well equipped kitchen. Perfect not only for a couple but for families. Offer of wine, liqueur, bonbons, and everything needed for a good breakfast. Exactly in the historic center, close to everything. Literally in front of the house is located the Locanda di San martino, where for 30eur per person you can enjoy the SPA and the swimming pool ad Jacuzzi in the cave for 1.30h. (See photo). I do not advise you to sleep in Locanda di san martino as you will not have the same comfort as in this house. But definitely you should try the SPA. Savio showed us Sassi and the most beautiful views. He offered us a guided tour the next day, but unfortunately we were in a hurry to visit another city far from there and we couldn't take advantage of it. It was my birthday and Savio offered me a beautiful lucky present which I appreciated a lot. We will definitely be back and this time with more time. Thank you for everything Savio.
