Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. UkraineThe first thing we encountered was that we had to pay for an extra bed for our little daughter, who herself does not sleep, and we did not need this bed. We did not understand why pay for a bed if we do not need it. After a long correspondence, the hostess said that we would not pay for her daughter. The second thing we faced was a fine of 50 euros for arriving 40 minutes late. After two days that we went to them and were very tired, this was a rather unpleasant moment. This is written in the rules, but they were waiting for us so much and that we paid the fine that we didn’t even wash the toilet. There was unwashed toilet paper. And in the kitchen in the trash can skins from onions. These bins had a very bad smell and we had to use separate trash bags to avoid opening the bin cupboard. There were also unpleasant odors in the bathroom. The shower and sink were clogged and didn't flush well. Also the shower room is very small in size and getting in and out was a problem. Unfortunately, the bathroom needs renovation for a long time and it spoiled the mood and was uncomfortable. It is a pity that the cleanliness of the garden is more important to them than the cleanliness of the rooms.
Very nice garden and well kept grounds. The location is close to beautiful beaches. By car 10-20 minutes depending on the beach. Near a supermarket, pizzerias.

SpainThe flat was quite small and very smelly. The owner said that there was a problem with the shower drain. It was impossible to stay in the flat with such bad smell. I was not offered other accommodation although the place was not full. The shower did not work properly. Water splashed in all directions, except in vertical. Impossible to take a shower and the owners suggested me to use a shower cabin close to the swimming pool. Unacceptable solution, as I paid to have a bathroom in the flat. I left without spending any night and I was not offered any refund. I lost 260 euro and I had to look for another hotel nearby. This was my worst experience in Calabria in the last 40 years.

GermanyNo WiFi (internet) in appartment (owner says - we promise only wifi at the reception) Apartment was not really clean (no wet cleaning was done) even though they charge 50 € for cleaning (!) No air condition in sleeping rooms (so it get quite hot at night during summer), just in living room Shower was congested Internior of apparment pretty old and basic One of the pot for cooking was totally burned (was exchanged after our complaint) A lot of extra fees or fines: - Only one wifi code (which only works outside) per person / device - they charge extra for more then one device (!) - 30 EUR fine when you leave the apparment and forget to turn off the air condition according to the rules (!) - 50 EUR extra if you arrive after 21.00 h (even though the owners live there) - 100 EUR deposit requested (in cash) if you arrive All in all to expensive for what it offers and not customer oriented - not recommended
