Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIn the description of the room selection it was indicated that the hostel was in a room with 8 beds, but in fact it was one big room with 18 beds, it was actually a little upsetting There was also no outlet near the bed Only at the end of the room near the exit to the hallway there were 2 sockets, there were enough sockets in the hallway
The location is great The attitude of the staff was very good

BulgariaIt would be nice if each bed had separate curtains. My bed was in front of one of the bathrooms and every time someone was turning on the light it was waking me up.
Very central location. It was possible to have an early check-in. The staff was nice to recommend a restaurant nearby. Clean bedsheets and good heating. Lockers available. Common area, kitchen and 3 bathrooms.

New ZealandNo individual lights or chargers. Bit too impersonal with 18 beds in the room but 2nd night only 2 of us. Walls very thin as could hear neighbours having a bath together?? Lol
Good kitchen facilities.Close to the city, easy access. 1 pin # and no keys! Bed was comfy, nice linen and towels, showers were fine. Nice big lockers.

Czech Republic- too many people in the room (fortunately, it was not full when I was there and people were respectful enough)
+ excellent location in the historical city centre (in so-called Sassi) and close to the train station Matera-Sud and Matera-Centrale + friendly and helpful staff (I could leave my luggage there during the day at the day of my departure) + international (European) socket available

AustraliaI didn’t realise all beds are in one room. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Door code was changed halfway through my stay and I wasn’t told
Good location in the old town (far from the bus stop), friendly staff and a good social environment. This is a lovely hostel if you don’t mind basic facilities

CanadaAll 18 beds are in a single room. When I visited it was less busy, only 5 or 6 other people were staying there. I can see it getting cramped if the hostel is closer to fully booked.
Fantastic value for money. Situated right next to the Sassi, the hostel is in an ideal location for those looking to explore old matera. Staff are nice and accommodating. I had to extend my stay for a day due to changing plans and it was a non-issue.

GreeceI knew that it was a mixed dormitory. I was though surprised to see that there were only approximately 18 beds (bunk ones) in one space. Maybe they could have divided this space into two sections. Or perhaps I had not noticed it when I booked it. But since there is also a kitchen and a common area, this might not have been possible. Yet the proximity to the historic site makes you forget issues such as this. I would like to suggest that a ventilator could be added, as in case of many people sleeping, the air needs somehow to be refreshed. In overall it was a good stay.
The hostel was very close to the area of historic Matera, the area dei Sassi. It is only a few minutes walk to reach it. The hostel has one dormitory with bunk beds and three well equipped bathrooms. I arrived by bus from Taranto and although the bus stop is almost 3 km away from the city, there are 4-5 local buses that can be used to arrive to the hostel. Except from Sunday and the time between 14:00-16:00... No bus.

NetherlandsBreakfast wasn't included. The check in was 20 min. to late, because the staff's lunch was delayed. He hardly said sorry for that. There were 3 bathrooms, but everyday they closed one of them. (because of little people in the place??)
It was quiet, because there were less people than beds. There is a kitchen, location is great.

SwedenIt's just one big space so it can be pretty noisy when other guests are doing their own things. There is no place to leave the things next to the bed, nor a socket. You have to leave your phone charging in the common area.
The host was really nice and allowed me to get in before check in and leave my things after my check out. The location is great. The toilets were big and clean. The towel they give you is nice. The lockers are really big.

GermanyThe hostel is good, but there wasn't really a nice atmosphere to connect or room to hang out. It got really wet in the bathroom when people had taken a shower. The reception isn't open until check in time, so you may have to wait at the door before you can drop your bag.
I loved that you walk right into the Sassi and that it's close to one of the train stations. I slept in a big dorm. There were several bathrooms you could use, some outside of the room. There were lockers outside that fit a whole bag.
