Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaEverything was pretty amazing, positive experience all round.
The place and people instantly felt like a family from the moment I caught the bus up to the hostel. Beautiful people and area. I’ll definitely be coming back for the community aspect and the hikes I didn’t get to!

ItalyBunk beds have a kind of weak structure, which makes them wobbly and shaky. I was sleeping on the top bunk and the beds were moving every time me or the person sleeping on the bottom bed turned. Showers are unisex (which is ok, but I would have like to known beforehand) and I had the impression that showers and bathrooms were clean only in the afternoon: since most of the ppl use the facilities in the evening, maybe it would be wiser to clean them in the morning. The hostel is close to the church so you can hear the bell loud and clear (which is nobody's fault of course, but it's a bit annoying, especially if someone suffers from light sleep)
Beds are comfortable and there are sockets right on their side. There's a big garden with tables where people can chill and chat and personnels were very nice and welcoming; there's free wifi and the hostel is close to the bus stop to and from La Spezia

LithuaniaA very nice place with friendly and helpful staff. Location is beautiful, but sometimes can be challenging to get to due to bus schedule. However the hostel staff does provide with all the information , which makes planning your trips to Cinque Terre towns much easier. Tabacco shop owner, Gloria is an amazing and very helpfull person who knows everything you need to know about cinque terre hikes, cards, tickets and etc.

SpainThere were only 3 toilets and 3 very small showers for all the guests.
Good breakfast and dinner, very friendly and kind staff, the garden is big and comfy, quiet environment, very clean. We found useful information at a nearby tobacco shop, with many details and a friendly owner. Gina explained us all the details, she has great local products and very good coffee. Very good internet connection and warm rooms.

CanadaNothing, it was wonderful!
It was amazing, clean and the owner who runs it is so friendly alone with the rest of the staff. When asking about how to get there he was great! There are plenty of showers and toilettes in comparison to the people. The little town it’s in is beautiful. Should I return to cinque Terre I will definitely stay again. Thank you! 😊

NetherlandsThere were hiking trail overviews, but would be nice if the hostel had even more detailed hiking maps available, possibly for sale, or just to look in.
Amazing hostel; spacious, clean, with a nice livingroom style chill room where it's easy to meet people or just read a book on your own, separate breakfast/dinner area also nicely decorated and good to interact with others. Great that you could eat dinner in the hostel itself, as the village is quite small. Village has all you need though to make hiking in and around Cinque Terre a success (tobacco shop with kind lady to explain all you need to know about hiking around Cinque Terre + buy bus/train tickets, a bottega to get food for on the way:fruit, coffee, focaccia) Would definitely recommend!

Czech RepublicI have a wonderful experience from this hostel, I was there off season in January, so it might be very very different at other times of the year :) What's probably the same at any time though is the very lovely staff, Cristiano was really welcoming and I felt very supported, knowing I could ask if I needed anything. The village itself was beautiful and peaceful and I honestly preferred it to all the famous touristy Cinque Terre towns. The hiking trails will take you to beautiful views and the coastal towns - I walked to Riomaggiore which is only about two hours hike away from the hostel.

South AfricaThe distance away from everything else. The busses go according to a different timetable from google. The hostel is up in the mountains so If you miss a bus you’re going to wait a good long time before the next one. The last bus being at 8pm. There is nowhere to cook your own food in the hostel or rather you can’t cook anything, only certain foods.
The social area was incredible, with gorgeous panoramic views, so even a day in is not wasted. The staff are so so helpful and friendly. The cook always greeted us which was very pleasant for me :) met wonderful people during my stay. There is a smart tv in the social lounge and we had a movie night
