It was all good except one small weirdness. The rooms don’t have numbers but names of operas. No one pointed that out so it was a comedy of errors trying to get our key back at night when we returned from dinner from the night manager who didn’t speak English.

What’s not to like about an elegant small hotel such as this in the heart of Lucca. On check in we got a great briefing of what to do in town and took the manager’s advice and attended the Puccini and Verde opera in a 1600 era cathedral. A high point. We also walked along the medieval walls of the town. The hotel was great. Breakfast was yummy, with pancakes and eggs and all of the continental goodies. We did book one room for each of us. Two tall people in these small European rooms wears thin on long trips (snoring included). So that made this stay pricey for us.

We loved its old world charm along with its total can do attitude. From the ease of arriving to a smiling, welcoming face and the feeling of a warm embrace whilst our car was taken away. We were helped with our baggage into the hotel and up to our wonderful spacious room. Nothing was too much trouble. We had great recommendations for dinner. The breakfast and service was exceptional.

We liked the location as it is near to car parking outside the walls and is in a quiet part of the walled town. Although that means you are slightly further away from the main sights the distances are short. The hotel has lots of character although some of the fixtures look a little tired. We had a suite on the top floor which was very spacious. The bathroom was well equipped but there was no shower ( either separate or over the bath). There was a reasonable choice for breakfast with eggs freshly cooked. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful which made it a delightful place to stay.

The neighbors could be heard very clearly. I mean we really heard everything, we heard when they walked in their room, when they coughed, flushed the toilet, their conversations, everything! Luckily, we had earplugs with us, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to sleep. Rooms were connected by a door in between and most likely therefore it was so noisy.

The room and the hotel was just like pictured, very beautiful! Staff were friendly and the location of the hotel was great, walking distance to everything.

Absolutely beautiful traditional Italian hotel. Very clean, excellent breakfast and the staff were lovely. Roberto in particular was so friendly and attentive. The hotel is in a great location and very close to the central streets and piazzas in Lucca. We'd definitely stay here again.

Excellent location in a quiet part of the old city, within the walls. Breakfast was prepared to order. The room was delightful with a beamed ceiling. The owner is charming, and speaks very good English.

Having to go home was the worst part. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this hotel.

Breakfast was delicious I ate too much each morning (yummmy😊). Freshly cooked eggs and bacon and freshly squeezed orange juice for each time we arrived to the dining room. The hotel staff were extremely helpful telling us about museums and walks and the nice bars to have café.

Beautiful, classic, renaissance style feel. Great location close to the centre of Lucca but far enough away to be peaceful and quiet. The family running Palazzo Alexander couldn’t be more accommodating and attentive. We’ll be back!

I was thoroughly impressed by the genuine concern and care demonstrated by the hotel staff towards their guests.
