Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe rooms are around 150 meters from reception, up a number of stairs and cobbled road. No problem for our family but may be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues.
Breakfast was placed in the room/fridge- fruit, cereal, yoghurt, cold meats and cheese and bread. The room we stayed in had steps to a wine cellar, very special.

ItalyI loved it all. There wasn't a thing I would change. Keep it up, Hotel San Giorgio!
Hotel San Giorgio provided us with a beautiful room, the Frantoio, for an amazing stay in Matera. The Room's position is perfect to relax and have quiet and peace, while still enjoy the beauty of living in the middle of the Sassi. The bathroom is large and modern, with lovely shower and everything you need and more. I loved the fact that the room was provided with a full package of local products and breakfast foods and drinks for all kinds of taste and those were replenished every day, so that our snacking wasn't depending on the opening hours of any buffet. Overall we were very happy with our experience, the courtesy of the staff, the super useful pointers they gave us and the beauty of the room.

Canadanot a single negative!!
Absolutely wonderful!! the apartment we stayed in was built above an ancient grain storage (wooden doors in the floor provided access to the storage - don’t worry, no longer active!). The ceiling in the entrance was about 6 or 7 metres high and the apartment opened on a quiet and private courtyard where we had a covered patio set with tables and chairs. Inside was a well equipped kitchen, interesting features such as a medieval era cold storage cut into the rock and a stairwell to a small room looking back into the apartment. The courtyard was at the entrance to excavations that exposed an old church under our building - interesting features indeed! Gianluca our host was very hospitable and engaging, and very informative about Matera. Our breakfast basket was refilled each of the three days we stayed with fresh fruit, bread, yogurt, local cured meat and cheese. Easy access to wander the Sassi area of this ancient city.

United StatesIt's hard to park, that's clearly stated everywhere. Pack light to walk in. Even with google maps it's somewhat hard to find the place the first time as there are winding little streets everywhere. Once I found it and we walked back up to the main piazza then I could find my way back without the map. There was a crane operating right across the street from us and they were busy for much of the day, so kind of noisy. Also, our room was not a cave so if you are expecting to ONLY stay in a cave this would have been a disappointment.
Matera- that's all you have to say. You must go. The location is down in the cave area and there is so much history all around you. You should watch "Passion of the Christ" and "No time to Die" before going as it will increase the fun. Also, make sure you go to the opposite side of the canyon to look back at the city. Breakfast was very good. Loft bedroom could be an issue for some but was fun for us.

United StatesIf you arrive by train or bus, take a taxi. it may look like a short distance away but there are a million suitcase unfriendly stairs. Maps and Google are sketchy at best. The big things like churches were easy enough to find, but smaller attractions like Casa Nuho, we never did locate. Although we found a terrace cafe/bar that had killer views. Never did find James Bond either. lol.
fabulous location. we were truly in the heart of the old town. Photo opportunities at every turn. we took 2 guided tours. one in a Tuk-tuk which gave us an overview of the area then a walking tour so we go into rock churches and cave houses. This is a pedestrian city. Each day we logged thousands of steps, many of which were stairs.
