Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomMy recent stay at the Sant Alphio Garden Hotel & SPA was a truly wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff at the reception were incredibly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Not only did they offer a warm and welcoming greeting, but they also provided us with useful information about the hotel and the surrounding area. Joseph at the reception even helped us take care of a parking ticket issue that we encountered during our stay. They were accommodating and efficient throughout our stay. Aside from the excellent service from the reception staff, the hotel was beautiful and peaceful with great views of the nearby Mount Etna and surrounding countryside. The rooms were very clean, with comfortable beds and all the necessary amenities. Overall, I highly recommend the Sant Alphio Garden Hotel & SPA to anyone looking for a peaceful and comfortable stay in a beautiful location with top-notch service. The reception staff went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable, and we cannot wait to return in the future.

IrelandThere was very little I didn't like. However, purely as an observation, insulation between the bedrooms was very poor and it was possible to hear conversation in the next room. Also I felt there should be an information book in the room giving details of services provided. For example, we were not aware that food was available at the poolside bar until the day before we checked out.
The hotel was beautiful. Lovely location near to the beach. About a 20 min walk into the town and a good selection of restaurants nearby

IrelandPillows were bad. Air con blew on top of the bed when you sleep. Towels, jacuzzi, indoor pool all extra charge. Breakfast very limited apart from pastries. After 2 or 3 there is no food available at the pool until dinner. Most other hotels would offer you something rather than just “no”

United KingdomThe bed was uncomfortable and a small thing but there was not an iron or ironing room.
The staff were very helpful. The pool area is good and there is easy access to a beach and mini supermarket a few minutes walk away.

IrelandOld fashioned heavy key for room door. Had to pay extra to use hotel’s sun beds on private beach. Because all bills added to room tab, reduced option of tipping hard working staff.

United KingdomThe breakfast was basic with very few savoury items. No fresh fruit, only tinned fruit which I found really surprising. Visited the pool bar/restaurant once for drinks only. Staff were not friendly and again food looked basic and unexceptional. Far better walking a few hundred yards to a decent restaurant at half the price where the staff will welcome you.
Location is great and within easy walking distance to a supermarket and lovely restaurants. The pool area and surrounding gardens are beautiful. Everything is scrupulously clean both inside and outside.

United KingdomThe hotel overall was very good, but lacked in-room tea facility, and had no room service. It is clear that the hotel's main constituency is one or two night coach parties, so facilities for longer term guests are less. Never got to try the lunch or dinner servings, but the menus looked perfunctory (again, aimed at one or two-nighters). Too far away from the "Montalbano" locations, so need to be based on the south coast for that.
Staff were very congenial, and the pool area was excellent, with more than adequate seating around the pool, and with necessary shaded areas. Wide range of continental breakfast options, spoilt by the lack of "proper" coffee (instant coffee in the machine!) in Italy - the home of coffee afficionados. Very close to several very local, non-chain restaurants, and half-an-hour walk to the main marine promenade in Giardini Naxos. Good base for Taormina, Savoca, Forza d'Agro and Fuemifreddo, but taxi needed, as the whole coast is very developed and there are probably more cars per square kilometre here than downtown New York City.

Romaniathe employees don’t know English at all and you cannot understand what they are saying The hotel is too far away from the center of Taormina, the taxis are very expensive and the bus station is far away and you have to walk like 15 mins and they dont have a schedule or timetable. in the last day they told me there is a strike and i had to take an Uber to the airport and i paid 110 euro for 50 km. this was very bad!
very beautiful and romantic, very clean

Splendid old fashioned Italian hotel with a nice private beach situated next to a lively beach cafe. Staff are helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Pool is lovely and it's a nice walk into town. We walked to Taormina which was a hike but great 👍

BelgiumThe bed wasn’t comfortable, they changed the mattress after I’ve asked it but the bedding isn’t up to the standard of a 4star hotel. The breakfast was mediocre and unusually for Italy the coffee was really bad.
The location is perfect, just a short walk from the beach.

ItalyWe felt like we didn't get all the value for the money we paid. The room was ok, but the shower not that great. And it was the first hotel we have been in Italy that doesn't serve coffe/cappuccino from a barista but from a Nescafe machine instead
The hotel is located decently, pretty close to the sea where they have their lido. It has a nice garden with pool and a decent offer of food at breakfast
