The apartment was right in the middle of Matera, so really central. The bedroom and bathroom were both set in caves which was a great experience.

It is a bit dark in the bedroom and since it is a cave house there are things that dripping out from the ceiling. They should have provided a cover on top of the bed so it won’t go down to the bed linens. It is like a dust from the ceiling.

The location is perfect our room has a private veranda and access. The view is stunning. The property is impressive as it has a generous space.

Bathroom is downstairs which is an issue if you need to visit during the night. To be fair I was aware of this before booking from other reviews but not ideal. However, trade off is the amazing locations and views. Breakfast needs improvement - poor quality orange juice and very little fruit.

Breakfast: The girl who 'served' breakfast. We found her quite rude - it was not a language problem as she spoke and understood English well but she did not greet us, almost rolled her eyes when we asked for cappuccino rather than regular coffee and when there was a power cut the first morning whilst having breakfast, she did not offer any explanation or let us know she was dealing with it- we had to ask (as were awaiting toast). She clearly did not want to be there and her attitude made this very clear. I would suggest a course in hospitality as her attitude let the experience down. The breakfast itself was quite limited - just basic cereal, cheese, bread, yoghurts and very sweet pastries - the waitress also limited our milk allowance! Given the price of the accommodation, I expected better.

Excellent location close to everything. Good communication from owner and helpful with any issues or queries. Lovely rooms and quiet despite close to centre.

Spectacular accommodation in the most special of locations! Our room was beautiful with french doors out to the most incredible balcony surrounded by the Sassi of Matera - breathtaking. Lovely breakfast served to us on the balcony.

The authenticity of the property - you can’t beat the ambience of sleeping in a cave! The terrace was used every evening, one of the main features of why we chose Sassisuite - and it didn’t disappoint!

The trek from the parking to the room was quite hard going, if you have any sense only bring small luggage

the bathroom was one floor below, reachable with a stair that may create issues to people with mobility problems

the suite was very elegant, with an incredible view on sasso Barisano from the balconi yet it was easy to reach (not so many steps!) from the Main Street.
